Welcome To England
|
They don't come from any one place in particular, but they do tend to live in the less salubrious parts of most of Britain's big cities, like London, Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool. |

Chaves do not exist... Its all media perception on the lower classes. Which in my opinion is a bit rude of them as THEY create these terms and earn money from other peoples misfortunes/life. god bless. |

A chav is somebody who wants people to think they have money, but they go so over the top with what they wear (clothes and bling) they look ridiculous only somebody who lives on a council estate would do this, or somebody who's got a bit of gold for the first time in there life... |

literally everywhere, they're in every city and most towns and even some villages.
i hate the word chav, it's very derogatory and puts stereotypes in people just for the way they dress, i know plenty of people who you would consider a 'chav' and they're the nicest people you'll ever meet. |

Anywhere there are council housing schemes, there you will find the 'chavs'. However in Scotland, chavs are known as neds. |

Chav is a derogatory term applied to certain young people in the United Kingdom. The stereotypical image of a "chav" is a white aggressive teen or young adult, of working class background, who wears branded sports and casual clothing, who often fights and engages in petty criminality, and is often assumed to be unemployed or in a low paid job. The term may originate from the Romani language.[1][2] The word first appeared in English dictionaries in 2005.[3][4]
Caricature of a chav
Response to the term has ranged from amusement to criticism that it is a new manifestation of classism.[5] One BBC TV documentary suggested that "chav" culture is an evolution of previous working-class youth subcultures associated with particular commercial clothing styles, such as mods, skinheads and casuals.[6] The term has been associated with juvenile delinquency, the ASBO Generation and yob culture. |
