Then entire city centre has attractions for all budgets and any special interests, including:-

Chinatown - Chinese/Thai shops, stores, bakeries, restaurants;

Northern Quarter - quirky shops, art galleries, great pubs, good value restaurants;

Castlefield - lovely canalside area, good pubs and restaurants, the Museum of Science & Industry;

Be sure to walk around Albert Square, pop into the Town Hall, look inside the city library and visit the city art gallery. The Rylands Library is gorgeous as well and always has some interesting exhibitions;

Urbis, the cathedral and Chethams School of Music - a mix of the medieval and modern;

Canal Street is a little slice of Paris, on a sunny day when everyone is eating and drinking under the trees;

Shopping for all tastes in the Arndale, Triangle, Printworks, Harvey Nicks, Selfridges;

There are some lovely villages and country walks nearby, like Saddleworth, Ramsbottom and the Peak District.

Ignore the ranters who say you'll be stabbed, like Manchester is the lower East Side of England or something. As if London was any safer. Every city in the world has spots where it's wise not to walk around wearing a Rolex.

Kinkydiva
Manchester Town Centre itself has plenty to see.

The Printworks.

The Wheel.

Trafford Centre.

Manchester United.

Manchester City Stadium.

Chinatown.

Canal Street (predominantly gay).

German Markets (Xmas time), Albert Square.

There are plenty of nice places in and around Manchester, there are also some not so nice places on the outskirts BUT there are nasty places in all cities so don't bad mouth Manchester - it's a beautiful city and I'm proud to come from there.

The town centre would be your best bet. Loads of shops and they have a tourist centre in the town hall you could pop in and ask them in there as im not really sure what it is you are looking for.

libratracy

Oh and there is a wonderful hotel called strangeways.
Forget the theatre of dreams, because unless you are a company executive you can not afford the entrance fee.
Rusholme for Ghandis revenge, Canal street for HIV, and China town for hepititis.
Welcome to manchester.

Are you joking? Did you know that one in three visitors to Manchester becomes a victim of violent crime, be that rape, robbery or murder!

The best part of Manchester for tourists is the road out!!

I lived there for 15 years and for the life of me, I can't think of anywhere!

I suppose you could go to the new Manchester City Stadium and look at the Big Bang. It's some modern art piece made up of spikes that have a habit of spearing unsuspecting tourists to the pavement.

The city centre...it has shops,shops and more shops. You get them anywhere. The ones in Manchester are nothing special.

If you are male, you will hate the Trafford Centre. It is miles out of the city centre and caters soley for female shoppers.

If you want an handbag or a pair of high heel shoes or a new frock or some make up, I'm sure you get my drift. Once you get in that place, it is hell trying to get out!

Avoid at all costs.
