South East London is where I live. I happen to live in a nice part of it - it's sort of divided into nice areas and not so nice ones although none are as bad as they were 20 years ago, most have been gentrified to a certain extent as property prices increase.

Good - Dulwich, Greenwich, Crystal Palace, West Norwood, Bermondsey, Abbey Wood, Blackheath, Charlton, Avery Hill, Greenwich, Lewisham, New Cross, Rotherhithe, East Dulwich, Forest Hill, Herne Hill, South Norwood, Thamesmead

Not so Good - Brockley, Camberwell, Catford, Deptford, Kennington, Grove Park, Peckham, Elephant & Castle, Shooters Hill, Penge, Upper Sydenham

Brixton, Peckham, Charlton and New Cross are areas I wouldn't go to, especially at night, and if you are alone.

AndyG45
Well, Lewisham is pretty dreadful!!

But whatever, it could be worse - we could all be living north of the Thames!! ;-)

pinoyscrewer
Sorry, but it depends on the colour of your skin

starlake18

Brixton, Peckham, Wandsworth, Woolwich or Plumstead

THEY ALL SUCK!

freddie
Anywhere around Peckam, Newcross, Deptford I'd stay clear off especially after dark.

And contrary to the above answer saying people are saying this because it has a large black population thats nonsense. It just has a high crime rate and thats a fact.

Jenny
Brixton and Peckham.

rubymlake
well you say brixton but its got so much history vincent van gough stayed there the clash wrote about it and played there a lot so i dont think you can say its awful. i say go to south east london experience then form your own opinion

id say the safest places to go are Eltham, Bexley, Blackfen, Greenwich or Bromley.

Most of these answerers are basically telling you not to go to areas with large black populations.

and they say racism is in decline..
