Midlands, near Birmingham. People are generally friendly and unpretentious here, its much nicer than London. And a hell of alot cheaper.
I cant speak for Canada, buts its alroight here, ay it?
Good things about England-
-Chips
-Beer
-Tea
-Music scenes alot more interesting than alot of other countries
-Ethnic intergration (despite what the Sun wants you to think) alot better than alot of other countries
-The countryside
Bad things about England

The Black Country just North of Birmingham. the roads are madness - bloody humps everywhere - speed cameras - traffic lights and white lines. The hospitals are in chaos - but all the Industry has virtually gone - everyone works pushing paper now and selling lottery tickets - that sort of crap. They actually block some roads right off - and some half way to stop you taking a shortr cut out of the grid locked A roads. Tax is low for income tax - but 17.5% VAT (sales tax) - booze and cigarettes are high. £5 a packet for cigarettes - but they are banning it almost everywhere anyway. Drug crazed loonies on crack in some areas - and hookers who earn to pay for it. Still the green and pleasant land you remember if you stay away from towns and cities. |

I live in Gosport at the moment because my husband is in the forces and we move a lot. We did spend 3 years in Wolverhampton and I can honestly say that it was my least favourite place ( and we used to live in Hounslow!) I don't know if it's me but I just thought people in the Midlands were a bit unfriendly and gruff! Maybe it's just Wolves but if I were you I would stay where you are. If you do come back go somewhere quite rural 'cos the inner cities have turned to s**t in the last 5 years. |

Hampshire, and it's dark and cold but by day it's lovely! Country and town is within short driving distance, so I get the best of both worlds. I much prefer living further out than in a city. |

I live in Essex, although I'm a token Essex girl because I was born in Islington (North London).
It's been unbelievably good weather wise for the last couple of months here in Britain but the dark nights are now upon us.
Essex itself is very multi cutural and has it's share of nice countryside and large towns with big shopping malls (Go Lakeside!)
Apart from the countryside and big towns we have some good seaside locations and great restaurants, plus the people are friendly - my Partner hails from Yorkshire (where it's always cold!) and has settled here OK.
We went to Toronto, Quebec and Montreal last year and walked ourselves silly seeing all the sights - the other half still wants to see Vancouver and all the beautiful scenery.
Holidays are great but there really is no place like home!
Good Luck! |
