Covent Garden in the evening has street performers and singers as well as great people watching, all the museums including the british, the science, the victoria and albert and the natural history are free. All the parks are free including Hyde Park with the Princess Diana trail and memorial fountain. Art galleries including the national gallery where Van Gogh's Sunflowers is next to Trafalgar Square. All the bridges are worth a look - Tower, Chelsea, Waterloo etc. Oxford Street shops are worth a look as is Harrods and Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge. You could go into the lobbies of all the posh hotels, no one would stop you. Go to estate agents and pretent you have 4,000,000 to spend on a house - lol! Go to parliament. All the churches and cathedrals are free and lovely to wonder around such as St. Paul's and Westminster Abbey. The millennium bridge and Tate Modern are free once you've see St. Pauls. In short, you don't have to buy anything other than your travelcard and your lunch.

Most museums and art galleries are free in London, which is great fo travellers on a budget.

When you are visiting buy an Oyster card which is a weekly / pre-pay travel card which will save you more money and give you two for one offers on those places you have to pay for.

As well as museums and galleries, you will want to check out Notting Hill Market (Saturday only) Spitafields Market (Sunday only) and these are a great way to spend five hours each.

just walk around, go to the east end see the markets, go to the center and see the bridges, westminster, buckingham palace, go to camden market, look on Visit London for ideas, have fun

national gallery in trafalgar square and the british museum tate gallery and tate modern gallery westminster cathedral are for free in london there are very nice library where you can read relax and use internet and beautiful parks like st james with a lot of animals
there are also classic concert at lunch time for free in some churchs and rock music in pubs

As people have said, the public funded museums and galleries are free. Also start at Buckingham Palace and start walking east towards Tower Bridge (or vice versa). The walk across the river embankment is probably a 40 minute walk if you don't stop. However, along the way, you'll have plenty of tourist stops (particularly if you venture slightly from the river). Off the top of my head, the sites you'll on both sides of the river are Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, the London Eye in the south, Somerset House, Tate Britain, Law Courts, Tate Modern in the south, the Golden Hind in the south, Monument, HMS Belfast, Tower Bridge, Tower of London.

Try the Theatre Museum in Covent Garden. It'll be closing soon so make the most of it whilst it is still there.

Camden is a must, it's free to walk around there and some of the people are very amusing to look at, in particular go to Cyber Dog, the staff are unique!!! The Ceremony of the Keys is free, it takes place at the Tower of London, I think it is just one night a week, but I could be wrong, check out their website for info.

There are TONS of free Museums & Galleries in London! Tate Modern, Tate Britain, National Gallery, British Museum, Imperial War Museum, Museum of London, Natural History Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum, and the Geffrye Museum are all free.

Hi there, I can Suggest you go to Hyde Park, Green Park, Camdon Market, Oxford Circus, ect ... the only cost you may incur is travel (Tube).

ALL the museums are free in London so that's cheap enough.
If its dry its always a nice walk along the south bank ( the same side as the London eye ) from Tower Bridge to Westminster, & theres plenty to see.
Get a free map & just have a walk around!! Harrords is always a good way to kill an hour.
In Covent Garden theres always something going on too, also Soho
