Move a TV in front of a treadmill, plop her down on it. Switch on the Travel Channel. Now you can go be with people you actually like and do something fun.

The movies, an exhibition in an art gallery, a free concert in the park, a picnic in the park, or window shopping

I'm not sure where, but a nice pinic would be a good idea, always go down well

Call your local parks and recreation board in your town and ask them if they have any parks with walking trails that will fit your need. The walking trails can be very pretty and also safe. You could even have a picnic. We have one in My town down by the river and i am in a wheelchair and i got around just fine. They had water stops along the way and picnic tables at certain locations on the trail. I hope this helped you and i hope that you and your mother in law have fun together. Peace

Botanical gardens, zoological park, art museum or nature museum
Not knowing where you live or what her interests are makes this more difficult to figure out.

a cemetery ?

To your kitchen.
< the messier the better esp. if YOU are working in progress :-) >

Mother-in-laws are very keen to that since that gives them a re-assurance that you are treating their son with the best home-made cuisine a wife can give.I'm a mom.Needless to say,I love my son with all my heart. Now,if a girl would want to impress me it would have to be in her cooking skills so then I'm assured my son is in good hands.
I'd been to many places already so to that regard I need not cover the planet earth entirely.Just your kitchen with you taking charge in it would be enough panorama for me to make my day really.
Save the daytrips on a sunday with the kids coz it's good for their childhood memorabilias.:)

There's various stately home/national trust properties nearby if the weather's ok - Tatton Park, Quarry Bank Mill and a few others. Otherwise there's some fairly nice villages in Cheshire if that's moew her cup of tea. otherwise maybe one of the museums in the City Centre - or a film if you don't want to have to talk to her!
