Where should I begin.... living in London is one of the most amazing things and there is so much to do and so much to see.....

Cultural London - Most of the top museums and galleries are now free to enter in London, (thanks to the National Lottery), but some exhibitions are not. Visit the British Museum, the Museum of London, the Tate and Modern Tate, or even the National Portrait. The Imperial war Museum in Kennington/Waterloo is also amazing.... well worth a visit.

Sight seeing - The best thing is to take a sight seeing tour hop on/off bus some even come with free boat tour on the Thames. This means you will see the landmark sights and you can get off and off as you please. Remember transport in London is very expensive. Make sure you buy an oyster card or daily travel cards. Walk over the wobbly footbridge (Millenium Bridge) and visit St Pauls Cathedral Amazing.
The London Eye is good for views of the City but views from primrose Hill in regents Park are also amazing too.

Shopping - The Markets on Camden and Portobello on Saturday and Sunday are pretty good. Different stalls all hawkming their wares. There is also Knightsbridge, kings road, and dreaded Oxford Street! But Covenant Garden is my favourite place to waste a few hours and plenty of cash.

Favourite Place - Well.... this has to be Soho. It is full of amazing bars, and restaurants, and theatre and a great place to people watch. Old Compton Street is the heart of the Lesbian and Gay Community in London..... but it is a fabulous place to be at night. I also enjoy Chiswick in West London and also Richmond on a Sunday afternoon... strolling along the river and enjoying a bear and eatching the boats chug up and down.

Safety - London is relatively safe contrary to popular belief and media coverage. I suggest you don't go off the beaten track and certainly watch belongings.

Food - London has some of the most amazing restaiurants for all types of budgets. A cheap noodle bar is Wagamama or a more expensive restaurants can be found in Covent Garden and Mayfair. By favourite is Bertorelli's in Covent Garden or the Ivy.

Entertainment - London has an impressive theatre scene, excellent cinemas (although avoid leicter square cinemas as they are overtly priced). There are comedy bars, sport facilities and places you can chill with a nice cocktail and relax.

Favourite Walk - I get a tube to Charing Cross and walk over the footbridge by embankment station and look at the views of the City and St Pauls truly amazing. I then walk down the south bank passing the theatres and take in the south bank. Arriving eventually at the Modern Tate... take lunch in the roof top restaurant.... and then accross the Millenium Bridge to St Pauls Cathedral and the London Museum. I then walk to Covent Garden do some shopping and a few drinks in Soho. Maybe take in a show or theatre and a great meal.

Most of all enjoy the city and all it has to offer. Have a great time!

go to the London eye, and walk down the bank, great stuff to see and some fun things going on at the weekends. then theres the science museum, what else... erm London dungeons? the queue for that is HUGE though. i went with my gf and the wait wa about 2 hours.

go to oxford street? bit of shopping

Get a two day ticket for a big bus (tour bus), you can get on and off as much as you like, and you can also get discounted entrance to the London eye and a Thames cruise, excellent value for money!

The Tate modern and The British Museum as some of the exhibits are free. I went a few weekends ago with my bf and we went to the Tate Modern. I said to by bf "how can a plug whole in a wall be art?"
He said "because it is 2am and you are still talking about it, that is why it is art".
Have a good time whatever you do.

Get a river cruise from the embankment (almost opposite the London Eye) to the Tower of London. Visit the Tower and Tower Bridge then cruise back. You could get on the 'Eye' too if the queues are not too long.

You should definitely walk along the South Bank (the area alongside the south side of the Thames in the centre of town), as it takes you past so many interesting buildings in a relatively short space of time (including the Tate Modern, Shakespeare's Globe, Royal Festival Hall, National Theatre, the Aquarium, the London Eye, and on the other side of the river in plain view: St Paul's Cathedral, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament etc).

You can choose to go in to some of them for a look around, or just admire them from the outside which is interesting in its own right. Plus there are loads of buskers/street performers on the way and the whole walk has a lovely atmosphere to it. Its impossible to get lost, as you just keep right by the Thames the whole way and for the most part its all pedestrianised - no traffic.

Try a city tours bus trip takes you round everywhere (4 diff routes to change/mix & match) you will c all sights & just jump on and off as you please. Also get a free river cruise included which is either a circular 50 min tour or a hop on hop off tour (round trip 2 hours) which goes to Greenwich. Well worth it if you want to c as much as poss in short time

The War museum is a good place to visit along with the British museum. Also you have Southwark Cathedral. These places are all free and easy to travel too as they are more or less within walking distance of one another.

Hope you enjoy.

also Victoria and Albert, as most museums are free; instead of paying a lot for the bus tours, use bus 15 with a bus travel card
