some parts of it are nice and fairly quiet with fishermen hauling their catch on the beach and some parts are like camden town in the sun
it's a nice place to watch the sunset while the kids play on the beach
cheap, friendly, relaxed,tasty food

Egypt, although the nights will be cool. For somewhere a bit more sedate and tropical, would South East Asia be too far?

Penguin
I wouldn't know anything about such a place in England, but some place along the coast of Maine (USA) might be in order here.

what about South Africa or Egypt, it is quite a long way but in comparison to Australia or other hot countires it's nothing! I spent last Christmas in Perth Wa and spent the whole time indoors in the air con, wanting to come back to my own life. I grew up over there and now that I've spent 6 years away, no one I know is the same and I just felt really changed.

Southern hemisphere, places there. Especially Australia, it gets pretty warm around Christmas time and the beaches are quite beautiful places to be at.

The further south you go, the hotter it will be. How about Margate? No, only joking. Southern Spain I'd say is you best bet, or the Canary Islands.

why not choose a sugar island in the sun?

dollybird
no where in the med will be warm it will be about 20c if you're lucky. carribean is only place where it will be nice enough but not too hot. expect to pay £1500 each for an inclusive fortnight. you call also try the red sea but take your bomb proof suitcase !

Kevan M
Well you would have to travel to at least the Equator and beyond to find your requirements as it will be winter in the Northern Hemisphere.
You could be looking at a 6 to 7 hr flight at least.
Try somewhere in the Caribean or the Canaries otherwise you could be looking at places in Mexico, Africa or The Indian Ocean.
Malta, Cyprus, Crete will be warmer than the UK, but still not above realistically 20 degrees.
Good Hunting

Since you said "Mum" I assume you are British so the best answer is the Costa del Sol in Southern Spain. That's where tons of Brits go on holiday and it would be one choice, but I'm not sure the weather would be that nice. Without a long haul would be tough. Perhaps Bermuda, since it's only half way across the pond?
