The City of York is interesting and historic. Yorkshire has some of the most beautiful natural landscapes in England encompassed in two national parks - Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors. There are also seaside resorts like Scarborough and Whitby which are are interesting and fun. You can travel to York by train in around 2 hours from London Kings Cross on trains operated by Grand Central and National Express East Coast. A preserved steam railway crosses the North Yorkshire Moors from Pickering
which would be quite a good place to base yourself if visiting the North York Moors National Park. The scenic railway line the 'Settle and Carlisle' railway runs accross the Yorkshire Dales from Leeds to Settle and Carlisle.

I live in Leeds, West Yorkshire. I would say The Royal Armouries (Leeds); Kirkstall Abbey (Leeds), Ilkley and the moors, Bolton Abbey, the Yorkshire Dales.
