EnjoyEngland.com
Hi. I would agree that York is halfway between London and Edinburgh. Why not try this link from enjoyEngland: http://www.enjoyengland.com/destinations/find/yorkshire/north-yorkshire/york.aspx
It tells you all you need to know about York. For accommodation why not look at this link: http://www.enjoyengland.com/stay/searchresults.aspx?Sec=accommodation&advsrch=1&Rad=3&TowPosCd=york&durat=1&room=1&adult=1&child=0&RtValArr=&display=list&Lat=53.956181861&Lon=-1.09474476&Caption=York,%20North%20Yorkshire.

Manchester would be quite good - its slightly to the West, but not too far off! and there is lots to do there if you were meeting someone!

If you are nude, painted blue, with bloody ruin splashed about
the halfway point hardly matters to Picts prior to 6th Century.
Because history has a way of repeating itself most of those
rather north of York are still waiting for the other shoe to fall.

annelazilu
it would be around york or leeds , leeds would be better to access if you are on the A1.

Meeeee!
I would say York.

Basement Bob
Definately York or Leeds. Look it up on multimap.
