There's a 'fake' one on the north bank of the Thames right by the Tower, but the real "beach-combers" beach is on the south band each side of Blackfriars and London bridges. HOWEVER, anything you find in the way of ancient artifacts MUST be handed over to the London Museum first for examination as they may be the real thing and part of history (as opposed to old jam jars!).
If you're looking for 'real' seaside beaches then you've got to go along the Thames estuary to places like Leigh-on-Sea and Southend. All on the C2Sea railway line out of Fenchurch Street.

Canvey Island. Its not great, buy it has got all that a beach needs, like sand, and sea and tide, and its got this cheap and cheerful '50's feel about it. Off down the A13, but not as far as Southend

Further to the answer of eflatsharp, anything you find in the way of body-parts on the london 'beach', must be handed over to the local constabulary.

It happened before.

I suggest the nearest reasonable beach to london is the costa-del-sol. Real english experience, i promise.

There is a small Beach on the River Thames I believe.
It's on the London Eye side of the River and think it's somewhere near the Globe Theatre.
If you take one of the River Boats down to Greenwich, the Tour Guide points it out .

There is actually a beach in the MIDDLE of London.......on the edge of the Thames, once enjoyed by the Londoners during the summer.

However, I would guess, that the nearest would be good'ol SOUTHEND-on-SEA.
It was always a favourite for most of us when ever we got the chance to have a day at the seaside!!! Oy Oy thats yer lot!
