Going by what you're looking for - I'd suggest Aberdeen. Aberdeen's good because its a reasonably big city (but not too big) but also so close to the countryside, beaches and peace!! So you can get the city life feel and have good nights out, but also have the nearby countryside to enjoy - plenty of places to go hillwalking and hiking etc. I also seem to remember hearing somewhere that schools locally are in need of more science teachers - so thats a bonus!! Aberdeen is also not too far away from other big cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow and close to the gateway to the Highlands, Inverness. Good luck with your choice. |

Scotland is a big place, with many different things to offer. What exactly are you looking for? Do want to work in the city, or in a small town? Do you have any specific objectives? Do you want to be close to the sea, or the countryside? Would you like to be close to family or friends?
A little more info would be helpful? |

How about the Fort William area, great hiking, wonderful scenery and within easy reach of Inverness. My choice would be Fort Augustus, a magnificent small village located at the west end of Loch Ness, there is a staircase of 5 locks and an abbey . I am a real country girl and have lived in numerous locations in Scotland, however if I was choosing a city it would have to be vibrant Edinburgh. Incidentally the west coast is far better than the east and the people are far friendlier. |

I would say Aberdeen. Its a great place with a good economy so you should find work or a transfer easy enough. |

My first answer would be Edinburgh but property is extortionate.
Inverness is a great place, near to lots of other greater places!! |

Edinburgh! Grand mix of ancient buildings [castles, monuments, Royal mile between the big castle and Holyrood House] it's history heaven for someone with time to wander & ponder...plus which it's also a yearly venue for frisky adventures in all the arts [Festival and its even friskier beyond the fringe activities that run concurrently with the more sedately artistic] and is large enough to offer a wide range of housing...unless you're a trust fund baby, you'll want to find something that won't eviscerate a teacher's salary. Since you've already survived northeast England winters, Edinburgh won't kill you, right? Culturally, socially, historically and every other -ally I can think of, Edinburgh would be IT if I had a chance! |

I would say Edinburgh would be good, but it might be hard getting a job there. Keep clear of Glasgow. But anywhere North of there is OK so long as you don't mind a quieter pace of life. |

Give Edinburgh the body swerve.Glasgow's fine. But you should try Ullapool, and a 45 minute drive over some fine Arctic type scenery will get you to Inverness.Tourists in summer make sure that it rocks, and klondykers keep it jumping through the winter. And there are many English settlers there who fit in very well if they have the right attitude. |
