Where should I rent in London?

I have a budget of around 1000 a month and am looking for a leafy area, good tube/transport, near good food shops and a good cinema! Central but not overly 'urban' (Hackney, for example is well out). Any suggestions?

How about Fulham or Hammersmith? Lived there for many years and loved it there. It's only 10 minutes by tube to the west end, 40 minutes to Heathrow and pleny of local cinemas, shops restaurants etc

Barnet area would fit the bill. Close for both Underground and overground trains, big cinema, lots of open countryside, and a brilliant football team :0)

West Hampstead... not too close to the city but not too far away either, good trains with the Jubilee Line, close to the West End, nice pubs & restaurants, nice houses, and the O2 centre just down on Finchley Road.

I agree that the Barnet (EN4 & EN5)/Finchley N3, N12 & N2)/Friern Barnet (N11) areas would be ideal for you. Have a look on rightmove.co.uk or findmeaproperty.co.uk for rentals, there are some lovely ones available.

Any corner with good car traffic is good for renting.

hampstead is a beautiful area, and if could afford it i would live there (still on a student salary im afraid!)... hampstead village is really nice with loads of cute shops, boutiques and right next to hampstead tube. futher into the village you get closer to belsize park tube and also hampstead heath train station. its also really green with loads of trees, and of course the heath is nearby. its on the northern line, and only a few stops from camden. hope this helps... good luck with the flat hunt x
