York is not too bad. Try Sheffield, you'll soon move back to York. Biut definitely do not under any circumstances move to Gateshead.

It's gotta be London- you can do anything you want here!! People in smaller towns and cities are so limited in comparison. I moved here when I graduated uni and my friends who went to other cities and towns all feel a bit held back.

I lived near Loughborough for a while and that was pretty nice....a good night out with all those sporty stidents, some nice countryside for lovely weekend or evening walks, not much crime, reasonable property prices and the people are quite friendly too.

Or come and join me in North London and we can go and get pished and have some fun!

If you want decent neighbourhoods with friendly people, then i recommend Bath, lovely town. Or if you want proper tranquility and a small place then move to Cornwall and there is a great town called Looe, its got a beach and good food but no nightlife. Or maybe Bude in north cornwall if you like surfing. If you want a place with a lot of jobs, then a cheap area of London would be good, but its quite scary for a new person who doesnt know anyone. Milton Keynes is a great place if you like modern towns and shopping. Easy to drive round there as well.

Seriously, though, Edinburgh is a 'happening' kind of place (Russell Brand lives there so it must be?) -it's a bit cold though.

I also like Canterbury, Oxford and Leamington Spa. Depends what you're after, really.

Canterbury's close enough to London to go out for the day there, or to the theatre etc, but far enough away so you get access to the countryside too!

Best of luck, I know how you feel -but once you get out, you'll never look back, believe me!

I think you should move to Brighton. It has everything good shops, seaside location, fab nightlife & close to London

Hi - I was from York too.

I went to London and then to Singapore.

London is big and tough until you make friends.

It is good to be a 2 hour journey from York - so try Manchester or Harrogate or Leeds

Depends what you are looking for - culture or night life/peace and quiet/scenery/away from low lying land etc.
Its a big choice so write down what you want and then think of an area that will give you those things. It pays to visit the areas just to check up on them.

Chichester. Because it is a quiet city. Gets a bit boring sometimes, but with Bognor and Little Hampton just a short drive away, there's plenty to do. Only joking. There's not a lot. But we do have our own cinema and Bowling Alley, two Macdonalds and 1 KFC.

Knaresborough as I'm sure you know is very nice and not too far to move to.
Windsor would be like moving from home to home in a lot of respects.
Whitby is also a beautiful place to live as is Scarborough. At least you'd be near the sea there and Scarborough did win an award for something to do with prettiness recently.

Come up to Newcastle because we have The Great North Run and loads of festivals going on at the beach during the summer, its lush cas everyoneâ€™s always down there and its a nice atmosphere.
