well i wouldnt worry about it being too hot lol
if you want to live on the south coast then i would suggest Brighton as a good option. or you could try bournemouth. also devon and cornwall are very nice but you might find those places a little quiet in the winter.
the UK and the USA are not very similar at all, except in a few obvious ways, like shops, tv, movies, music and entertainments. |

I'd second Brighton, it;'s somewhere I visit regularly with the girlfriend. Nowhere in the UK is going to be too hot unless you're from Alaska! Brighton is one of the best places for young people with lots of bars, cafés, clubs and shops and of course it has a beach (albeit a more pebbles than sand). It's also the gay capital of the South, but if you're not homophobic that shouldn't worry you. The only other downside is that there are significantly more than the national average of homeless people. They say if they're going to be homeless they might as be homeless somewhere nice! The UK is more similar to some parts of the US than other parts of the US are, if you see what I mean.
Edit: I think you'd find Torquay or Bournemouth rather dull. There isn't much to do in either (I know both very well) and they both have high numbers of old people. |

Brighton, East Sussex. Sea-side town , Very cool place to Live , 25 mIles from Gatwick airport , 70 Miles from Heathrow Airport, 50 Miles from London. Check it out on www.travellerspoint.com.
Has great atmosphere , good place to Live and unlike other places the Crime rate is Low.
The UK is nothing like the States except we both speak English.
You will not get much with your money here, Clothing is more expensive and food is also more expensive. Houses or Flats ( Apartments ) in England would be half the size of ones in the States but you will get use to it and easily fit into the English way of life.
Brits love Americans so you will be very welcome in UK especially in Brighton |

well i think britain is pretty similar to the untied states apart from accents and climate. ive visited cheshire before it looked really nice but thats in the north so cooler. the lake district is nice but incredibly expensive. you've got loads of cafes and strarbucks there. its a very mountainous place. very pretty scenery in both cheshire and the lake district. in cheshire theres a choice of living in a big town like Crewe or warrington or a small villiage (sorry don't know any names) also in cheshire you're within about 25 miles of manchester and liverpool two big cities so lots of facilites. theres good transport around there aswell and the accent is nice. the problem you would have is in the north people are more frinedly and nicer and its generally nice around (althuogh slightly poorer) but if you want somewhere hoter then you should go to the south. things are much more expensive down there, though - the cost of life is much more. if you want to live down south anyway because of the climate i'd suggest surrey which is just west of london although that is expensive or cornwall. overall, i'd siggest one of those two places in the north much cheaper and in my opinion nice. good luck in your move to england xx |

Ok so everywhere in Britain does get pretty gloomy at times. Erm ok here are my suggestions:
The county of Devon is really, really pretty, down South-West of the Country, a couple hours train to London, a couple hours ferry to Northern France, lots of great walks, a lot of it is very much a holiday region for the rest of Britain, but it does have some larger towns, I've never been to a city in Devon though so someone else would have to tell you if there is one and how it is.
LONDON!! (where I live, in case you didn't guess by use of capitals) is, obviously in my opinion great. Most of the boroughs around London are maximum half hour train journey to London, and if you live within teh zones (1-6) a child fare is only £2, adult is just something like just over a fiver, but it's great. The problem with London, and also the rest of England, is if you want a good place, it's expensive, so make sure you have a job before coming, or have some money saved up, or some friends here who can help you out, whatever.
Places like Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh area also all very nice, but that's going further up, you know it's getting too cold when they say 'hullo' instead of 'hello'. or here's a better one: 'stewdants' instead of 'students'. lol
Anwyay, as I live there, I can give you the best recommendation for London, but outside of the city. I'm in the borough of bromley. Croydon (that's the place where Kate Moss was first spotted as a model btw) is only 20mins away, plenty of Starbucks, Café Nero, Costa, Macdonalds, HMV, Zaavi, just everything, also london is only 20mins, flats are being built aaaall the time, so a quick search or talk with some estate agents over here could easily and quickly find you a good flat to rent. It's not a small, sweet village, but it's not like the city of London, but it's only about 20 mins from each. If you just drive for 20mins away from London you start coming to big fields and LOTS of open space.
I would recommend moving to a place in like zone 4/5/6 of London, because it's still close, but it has it's own community, and shops and high streets, but you can reach the city and the countryside very easily from there.
Hope you enjoy Britain! |

Tunbridge Wells or Sevenoaks meets all of your requirements, but they are expensive.
The population of Tunbridge Wells is 60,000.
It is 40 minutes drive to London and 40 minutes drive to the coast or 1 hour to the channel tunnel.
It is a very nice town, low crime rates, very good schools, some good night clubs, excellent shops, big shopping mall and it has a nice starbucks in the centre of town, nice parks and it's surrounded in beautiful small villages and countryside.
I live in T.Wells and I honestly wouldn't want to live anywhere else in England. It has everything here and is in a perfect location, near the countryside, near London, near the beaches, near the channel tunnel.
It also has some of the best weather in the UK.
Like I said though, it's damn expensive.
See this wikipedia article on Tunbridge Wells here; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Tunbridge_Wells
We are generally very friendly here and most of us love Americans!
"The statistics for crime in Tunbridge Wells show that in 2005/6 there were far fewer crimes occurring in the area than the national average. Incidents of violence were particularly low in comparison: 10.68 instances per 1,000 people in Tunbridge Wells compared with 19.97 per 1,000 people nationally."
"Tunbridge Wells enjoys a relatively low unemployment rate of around 1.0% as of August 2008,[33] compared to a UK national rate of around 5.4%.[34]" |

SO YA WANNA COME TO ENGLAND?
Well england is VERY different to america.... we are more sarcastic and less friendly than americans (generally) there is less arrogance in england as people dont like that so much as well as less brats (my sweet sixteen n all that shi.te) the weather is much colder than america i dont think you understand how cold it is.... We are very multi-cultural and more sporty.... drinking age is 18 too so thats obviously a good thing and english are renowned for getting drunk all the time.... crime is minimal because obviously no guns... as for not living in a urban area but not a rural area either i dont really understand Portsmouth, Brighton and bournemouth are all down south and probably the "warnest" (if u can say that) part of england... there's beaches down there but not too impressive..... overall i don't really know why you want to come here to england, im onli 19 and i wanna leave but i guess you want to spread your wings.... try coming over here on a holiday first to see if you enjoy it.... england is a fallen giant and i dont particular see anything very pleasing about it... but dont let me put you off! come and see for yourself! just think everything through before you go rushing around halfway across the world. |
