There are places like Holloway Road (Piccadilly line) or Finsbury Park (Victoria and Piccadilly line) that are less than half an hour from Oxford Circus, and have reasonable rent prices. They are not the best neighbourhood in town, but are safe (which doesn't mean you can leave your windows open and go out), have good structure, near tube stations and other public transports, supermarkets etc. Finsbury Park even has a lovely big park, so you can go for walks etc... good luck

West of London, Acton, you can get a nice place like in North Acton and use the central line direct to Oxford cirrus for less than half hour, it is nice and cheap, and if you drive you can use the A40.

King of London

I swear prices go up to millions in central London. I dont think its that easy there I would live either inner London or the subbubs but not central London thats a rip off anywhere in London gets you to the central quick enogh ever heard of London Underground I live in Isle Of Dogs, Docklands East London I thinks its cheap its inner London only a few stops till Im next to the big ben the tallest buildings in the country behind my road and its cheap here you should look at East London

It really depends on what you mean by "reasonable".
Nowhere in London is reasonable - just ridiculously expensive and very expensive.

Try West out towards Uxbridge/Heathrow along the Piccadilly line tube route.

What's your budget? I presume you're planning to rent?

You should probably start by looking at wide areas. The south is always going to be cheaper than the north, but lacks the vibe. Balham, Clapham, Dulwich are all nice - not chelsea prices, but still not cheap. Streatham, Lewisham etc. not so nice, but a lot cheaper.

West London is lovely but quite suburban. Ealing, Acton, etc. are good places on the central line.

East London is a bit more gritty, but you get the best bargains and there are some quite trendy places.

North London - Crouch End, Muswell Hill, Golders Green are all nice. Finsbury Park, Holloway still good but less leafy.

Docklands is lovely and the DLR means that transport links are great. It's not cheap but if you're willing to flat-share then it's reasonable. The Surrey Quays/Rotherhithe/Canada Water area is also lovely (I lived there for eight months and loved it) and again fairly reasonable and with good transport.
