Where to stay in Scotland in the winter?

I'd like to stay in a cottage somewhere in Scotland where there'll be snow (not interested in skiing), wildlife and some interesting places to visit - thinking of February time - any ideas? Had considered Inverness or Loch Ness areas but open to better suggestions........... thanks

Ballater or Braemar are very nice that time of year but are perhaps a little remote & can be cut off for days during really bad snow.

Inverness and Loch Ness are really nice places. But it alll depends on whether you want to be snowed in or not. I like Perthshire. You're pretty central there and you can travel to other destinations from there. There is lots of country side and you'll be able to hire a cottage.
No promises there'll be snow though, more likely to get rain!

indoors with a fire preferably ☺

Anywhere in the north east, probably north of the great glen to be in with a chance of some proper snow. I've lived up this way for just over a year and i love it.
We have buzzards nesting in the trees where our well is, so we get treated to some amazing displays by them, we have badgers living close too.
I used to live in the south east of england and thought it was great to see a bird of prey now and again, but up here you see lots of different types every day.
The north east coast line is truly stunning, from aberdeen up thru peterhead and fraserburgh, amazing on a wild stormy day!
You could go to the black isle and see some dolphins. I think they're there all year round, be best to check up on that one.
Enjoy your stay in scotland!

I agree with beetlebug. I'm from Edinburgh & I can't remember snow here at all last year. It's not like when I was a kid when we used to have a lot of snow. I blame Global Warming myself! The further north you go you have a better chance of seeing snow. As for Aviemore...even they don't see that much snow there nowadays, but they have plenty of other things to do there anyway apart from skiing.

If you want snow then you want somewhere in the mountains. Try Perthshire or Aberdeenshire although there's no guarantee of snow nowadays.

Nimbus
A log cabin in Perthshire, somewhere near Kiliecrankie or Blair Atholl, pleanty of dear and wild life and some fabulous river walks

The further north you go the more likely you'll be of getting snow. Aviemore is a great skiing resort so you're usually guaranteed (as much as you can be!) to get snow there.

Angel
Stay in the cottage, it will be warmer.

Cabrich, its 5mins from inverness its beautiful .especially in winter time .but it is cold at that time of year.have a good time where ever you go.

Moofunk
The Cairngorms have the most snowfall during the Winter in Scotland. I would suggest somewhere in the Spey Valley as a base..Maybe around Newtonmore or Kingussie. If you want to be closer to the mountains, the maybe somewhere like Nethy Bridge would be a good idea. Avoid Aviemore like the plague, although it's useful if you need to stock up on supplies etc.
