Where would you say is the best place to live in England?

Tell me where you would suggest as a really lovely place to live. Not London . I want to move out of London, Had enough of the traffic the unsocial people! that seem to be too busy to just say hi as they push by!!! lol...so some where that has fields and a nice village. My kids are coming with me, so I dont want to be totally cut off from them making friends!

Lancashire is great

friendly people, lovely countryside, not too cut off from big cities

if you can find a nice small town or village in the Pennine Hills it's a great place for your kids to grow up. I know from experience of growing up in the Pennines. that's where i got my love for cycling :-) as a Kid, having all the hills and fields and farm lanes to cycle and play on was fun, and there is very little traffic, and it's safe :-)

I wouldn't ever want to leave Lancashire, and my little spot in the hills

I've been to England three times, and the city I always LOVE to visit is York. I think Yorkshire people are friendly & casual, and the city (and surrounding area) is so beautiful.

It's still a (somewhat) crowded city, but it's not congested like London.

York and Leeds are nice. Coming from London, then Leeds might have a little more going on, whereas York is more pedestrian.

Leicestershire is nice especially south near Northampton with plenty of countryside.

My preference would be York

Cheshire is near Manchester. Disley might have good job opportunities in the industrial parks. If you have a wonderful voice and personality maybe you could sing with Mart Rodger!

Harrogate!
Where I live, so pretty and tranquil! (:

Oxford

because it's a great location. An hour or so away from Heathrow airport. Contains one of the ountries best hospitals (John Radcliffe) + top university. There are loads of shops and cafes in town. There's also a bit of countryside to oxford too on the outskirts.
Also not too far frmo Birmingham or Reading!

brighton,

it has everything that london has to offer, however you close to the beach, close to all amenities and it has all the culture that london has, however it isn't as ridiculously busy as london and the people are friendly too, however brighton and hove itself are a no drive zone, for traffic (best to use public transport), but if you live on the outskirts it should be fine.
also another place we love is bournemouth, tend to holiday there and our friend and her family are constantly bragging about the lifestyle
however i only holiday, far different from living there i know.

Down south ... Bournemouth/Southampton way: better beaches, better accent ;)

York is really nice, people there are friendly and although it's a city I think it has a sort of easy going atmosphere.

South Dorset, I love living there! I think it's something about the sea that relaxes people, I'm not sure, but it's very laid back and friendly place to live, and I would choose Dochester. Dorchester being the capital town of Dorset means that you have good school access and so your kids can make friends, there are lots of fields around trust me :P and surrounding dorchester you have the villages of New Poundbury, Stratton, Bradford Peverall, Charminster and Fordington. Plus you got the seaside town of Weymouth which features a beautiful beach. So I think you would enjoy it there, i'm 16 and currently live there, and having formely lived in London and Manchester makes a change from the busyness and rudeness of the cities. Plus of course you can walk about safely as well, as the crime rate is really low in this part of the country :D hope this helps you!
