Royal Tunbridge Wells.
If your 'kid' is referred to as a (ahem) 'child'.......then nowhere else in the south-east is anywhere near pretentious enough for the likes of you......'old mucker'....... |

Maybe Richmond or a bit further out into Surrey. Richmond itself is full of green and still London and in Surrey there are lovely little towns surrounded by green/countryside. If not Kent is a very nice green area too. |

If you are wealthy enough, look at Cheam or Epsom. They are villages with plenty of green areas (e.g. Nonsuch Park in Cheam), but are also well served by the road network and by regular fast trains to the centre of London.
Cheam is in the Borough of Sutton, which still has grammar schools - this might be a consideration for you.
Cheam falls just inside the Travelcard Zone network. |

London is a vile place to travel in, so if your job is unlikely to change choose somewhere near a mainline station that serves your subburb. For instance, I had a friend who worked withing walking distance of Kings Cross and chose to live in Baldock. His commute time was less than someone in Underground zone 4. |

Harlow
The town isn't very old,
London is 20 miles down the A10 and even the drive into London is easy,
If you don't drive then you can catch a train from Harlow Station which goes through Tottenham and arrives at Liverpool ST
As for house prices, you can rent a house for £625 pm +
It's green too, there are trees everywhere,
Parks and lots for children to do
Also Harlow is surrounded by lots of little villages, and other towns
Broxbourne { it has a wildlife park}
Hoddesdon,Nazeing
I love it here and I won't ever move again it's the perfect place to raise my 3 children |

If you can afford it, Amersham, Chesham, Gerards Cross are nice.
Steer clear of High Wycombe, Slow, Uxbridge, Luton, Dunstable. All a bit yucky and concrete |

You can't beat area between Reading and Oxford near the River Thames and Chilterns in either Berkshire or Oxfordshire. The beautiful country there is green, pleasant and wooded and people very pleasant and there are beautiful homes to live in and various famous TV or movie stars live thereabouts. Reading also has a very frequent and fast train service to both Paddington which takes just 30 minutes and Waterloo, while Oxford has the tube coach service which goes into central London every 10 minutes. You can also get into central London rapidly along either the M4 or M40 using your own car. |
