Which London neighbourhood is the most fun and alive with young single people just out of university,..? |
...unattached, and starting out on life's journey. What are some of the areas of London where people matching this description would live and play? I'm thinking single, young (21-29) university graduates, starting out on their careers or studying in postgraduate programmes. I'm thinking f neighbourhoods with a lot of nightlife, pubs, good shops, and restaraunts. Where in London would that be? Thanks! |

Camden is very expensive indeed unfortunately and quite rough and scuzzy at night. Stoke Newington N16 is quite studenty and lively and the rents are more reasonable and it's home to lots of nice lefties. Ditto Camberwell SE5 which is also young and studenty and quite cheap by London standards. Islington (N1, N7 and N5) is a great area for young people and much nicer than Camden but also sadly very expensive. It all depends on what your tastes are, but if you are left leaning and liberal but have certain aspirations in life I think you would probably find the really trendy areas to be stuck up and you would feel quite at home in the Islington / Stoke Newington area. |

you actually get that in most of London. I've been here 6 years an lived all over te place but i think you would most enjoy the clapham area. You don't need to go into central to have a nigh out there's plenty of pubs/clubs/restaurants in the area and loads an loads of young people live and work there. It's on both the tube (northern line) and the overground train network so you can easily travel all around Londo from there. Central London is a mere 20 mins away. It can be pretty pricey to live there but a cheaper option that many go for is Tooting. A little further down the northern line but easy access to Clapham and you'll find lots of people living there who want to be in that area but can't afford Clapham.
Hope that helps,
Mariam. |

Im living in Camden now and its great because within camden theres the market, live gigs, pubs, restaurants etc and its only a 20min bus ride away from soho, oxford street and leceister sq (which is good for weekend nightlife but too noisy and expensive to live). If not, Id suggest north london over south because the tube and bus service is much better, there are 24h buses etc. |

stay away from brick lane .. no offence but its not a nice area to live . regular hookers walking the streets late at night / mornings. more Indian curry houses in brick lane than the rest of the uk put together (thats a joke but there are a lot)
Camden is very nice though a lot of strange people (punks goths).. has quite high drug problem though it is considered "cool" to live there with some great bars and a lot of live band venues. i suppose i consider it old school cool.
really trendy place to live is hoxton but it will be expensive ..a real trendy cool place to live were fashion seems to be quite fresh and croud very nice .. funky art galleries great little bars and 2-3 live music venues .. the words up and coming have been used for a while to describe this area for the past few years and it really is.
Islington i find is also really nice with lots of fresh bars shops and restaurants with a quite nice feel about it. (very expensive houses but area's on the border will be cheaper and quick bus/cab ride to get there(10 Min's or so)
i wouldnt put shops on my list to look for a location because if your looking quite central then just about any shop is close with a 10-20 min tube/bud ride to the west end (camden has a market yes , islington has a few nice shop also) |

Lots of young post graduates move into Clapham and Battersea which are up and coming areas, have fun night life and good transport links. New Cross is also a good up andcoming area and has something of a cultural scene. This would be my tip for a place for you to live. Get in now whilst it is still quite cheap, because with the extension of the East London Line due to open in 2010, it will probably become pricier and more gentrified.
Lots of places in London attract such people, and with London's urban vilage orientation and excellent transport networks, you are never far away from dozens of vibrant 'High Street' areas. |
