Which airport is closest to city of london?

Closest? City Airport (East London), however, nothing flies there!

For closest i would recommend Heathrow - get the Heathrow express or coach from the airport (although if you arrive late (i.e., after 00:00am) they may be closed so check!). If you want to do it cheaper, get the bus from the airport to 'Hayes and Harlington' which is 5mins ride. From there you can get the train which is a bit cheaper than Heathrow express (because you can use/buy standard London Travelcards)

london City airport is the closest to london. It is situated 6km east of the city. there is a light rail service going to Docklands with stops along the way. Other airports are Heathrow in Surrey, Gatwick in sussex, Stansted in Essex and Luton.

London City airport in the Docklands. Limited flights only though. Beyond that Stansted is quickest to City itself or Heathrow for west end.

The one in docklands - City airport.

Heathrow is miles out of town.

Scotty
London airport of course

greyfoxx
London City. Its near the Isle of Dogs and the millenium dome.
Nearest international airport is Heathrow at West Drayton.

city of london airport is the closest to the actual city of london , it is in the docklannds. however there are not a lot of commercial flights as it is a small airprt. the other options are north london- luton, east london -stanstead, south london- gatwick, and west london heathrow. hope this helps.

Squawkident
Technically London City airport is the closest to london being situated near canary wharf and the millenium dome. Although this only caters for aircraft up to ba146 size so do not expect to go far from here. London Heathrow is to thewest of london and the UK's biggest airport. Most people will arrive here when visiting london. London Gatwick/stansted/Luton are more holiday airports for uk people travelling, be it, ryanair from stansted or easyjet from luton. Gatwick does have some continental flights and issecond to heathrow in size and how busy it is.

Alex
London city airport but i think you can only go to europe from there.

If by the City you mean "the City" as in the financial district then City Airport is closest.

if you just mean London centre then there are 2 airports neither of them particularly close.

Heathrow - 15 minutes from Paddington Station on the Heathrow Express
then
Gatwick - 40 minutes from Victoria Station on the Gatwick Express.

Depends if you're going to South London or not because Gatwick is much easier for South Londoners and there is usually a local train which is easier than travelling to Victoria.

There is also Stansted which is a good hour and a half away from Liverpool Street (if it was a London zone it'd be about 108 or something!)

There is Luton (which is sometimes called London Luton) but it is a bus journey to the train station and then a long train journey to Kings Cross station.

tward1989
heathrow isn't even in london and neither is gatwick. i live in london and all the low flying planes i see are either going or coming from london city airport. LCA is the closest.

London City Airport. Its in Docklands, on the north bank of the Thames, near Silvertown

JULIE S
The city airport is the nearest in docklands but depends on where flying from/to as no longhaul jets go there so it would then be heathrow

Tzctlpc
It depends.

The airports serving London in a meaningful way are Luton, Stansted, City, Gatewick and Heathrow.

Luton and Stansted are too far, and are only useful if you are going away for a couple of weeks or more and want to save a bit of money (cheap arilines use them asiduously).

If you are going to the West of London Heathrow is your best bet.

If you are going to East London City Airport is ideal.

Gatwick may be more convenient if you are going somewhere more central, specially around Victoria train station.

Keep in mind that if you chose the wrong airport (in many cases you have no choice anyway) you may waste quite a lot of time or money to reach your destination.
