Surprisingly, most places are fairly safe. The english always moan about crime but if you check world wide figures on violent crime/gun crime, it's not half as bad as a lot of other countries,including some countries you wouldn't have expected. That said, it has got worse in the past few years.
Obviously the main thing is keep away from most town centres late at night, keep sober and don't 'try to be a hero' if a situation arises.
Statistically, rural places are safer, esp. places like Cumbria and a good deal of the West Country such as Cornwall.

I think in most places there are safe and dangerous areas, it just depends, i think nowadays it's hard to find anywhere where you can feel completely safe.

It also depends what you want from the area, Bath is a nice city.

I think England isn't safe anywhere really :/ stupid chavs all over, beating people up for no reason :/ they're just idiots. I'm moving out of England when I'm old enough because it's beyond a joke.
