Here is my list from when I went to England. I've been there twice now and I still haven't done everything on this list. It's a great place and you'll have a wonderful time.

1. Big Ben/Parliament
2. London Eye
3. Buckingham Palace
4. Trafalgar Square
5. Piccadilly Circus
6. Tower of London
7. Hampton Court/Gardens/Maze
8. Kensington Palace/Gardens
9. Serpentine
10. St. Paul’s Cathedral
11. Westminster Abbey
12. London Zoo/Regents Park
13. Aquarium
14. Covent Garden
15. Tower Bridge
16. Millennium Bridge
17. Carnaby Street
18. Harrod’s/Hamley’s
19. Hyde Park
20. St. James Park
21. London Dungeon
22. Globe Theatre
23. Notting Hill
24. British Museum
25. Portobello Road Market
26. Leicestershire Square

With planning you could cover alot of these with minimal walking. Just chose your favorites and plan it out.

Good Luck!

London is my favorite city in the world!

I would highly recommend you go to the Tower of London, which is really comprised of many towers, and dates back to 1078. It's a very fascinating place. There you'll see the fabulous crown jewels, the Banqueting Plate and other church plates.

Another beautiful place to visit is St. Paul's Cathedral. It's really hard to imagine the grandeur of this place until you see it for yourself.

Also, go to Harrods - a must see in London. It is a world famous store, which is not to be missed.

The food in London is not so good. They make sandwiches with one slice of meat, a slice of tomato, and maybe some lettuce. Your best bet is to eat in the pubs.

You didn't say when you were going so I suggest you wear layers of clothing. Check the weather on line before going to see what the forecast might be for the time of year you're going.

Be prepared. The pound is a lot stronger than the dollar. The exchange is about $1.80 US dollars for one of their pounds. (I think that's right)

Also, you should see Buckingham Palace and, if possible, the changing of the guard. In the same area is St. James' Park, which is lovely.

Have a great time and remember: THEY DRIVE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD! When crossing the street, look to your right. Have fun.

London Dungeon, (Tube: London Bridge) it's changed alot from the days of just being a wax work exhibit. It has rides indoors that scare your pants off! Really fun and creepy.

Science Museum is fun, I only went in there to check out their shop and was amazed at how high tech and fun everything looked, and it's free to visit! (Tube: South Kensington)

If you're into creepy stuff, then I recommend the Jack The Ripper Tour. Not the official one though, as that attracts about 200 people a time, is expensive and you have to pay up front and can't hear anything from the back of a group that big!
While I was at Tower of London, the Yeoman Wardens recommended to me to go on the Ripper tour that they put on every night.
Each night of the year except Xmas, a different Yeoman Warder of the Tower of London, hold a Jack the Ripper tour, meeting at Tower Hill tube station at 18.30 hrs. Their tour is called "Ripping Yarns" don't get them confused with the official "London Walks" tour which though I'm sure is good, is difficult to hear, as there is always too many people to one guide, and more expensive.
The Yeoman Warder wears their civvies, so don't expect their full Tower uniform, they do the tour as a hobby, only charge £5 per person and don't ask you to pay until the end of the tour, so if you do get bored or tired of walking, or scared to death you can leave the group at any time. Most groups on the tour are usually 30 people, so very small and intimate, and of course, being a Yeoman Warder, they have a loud voice and are very good at telling stories, with all the dramatics you would expect from a tour round the Tower. The tour takes you round the back streets of Aldgate and Whitechapel, taking you to the stop of each murder, discussions and detective work on who really was the Ripper, so very involved. It lasts 2 hours, so wear trainers, and prepared to be scared.
You can get all the info you need from their website, just put 'Ripping Yarns Tour' into a search engine, searching the UK.
I always recommend the tour to any tube customers who want alternative things to do in London.

P.S: Our Yeoman Warder guide was Simon, he was brilliant, if you go to the Tower, you should go find him and ask him about the tour, or go on his Warder tour in the Tower!

Apart from agreeing that the road out of London is probably the best one, I think that if you headed for the London Eye that would be a brilliant start. You could then either visit the London Aquarium or head up river and cross, taking in the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Westminster Cathedral, then get a bus towards Tower Hill down along Fleet Street, you will see the Royal Courts of Justice and St. Pauls along the way. The Tower of London is at Tower Hill.

I like riding on the Docklands light Railway, its like a great big toy train set and it goes through tunnels and over bridges and around big buildings - you can ride round on it all day with a 5 quid travel card.

The Attractions I would do which take a good length of time are as follows.

Any of the Museums, but especially the Natural History, Science and Victoria and Albert.
The Tate Gallery (Not the Tate Modern)
The National Portrait Gallery
The Maritime Museum Greenwich
HMS Belfast
Imperial War Museum
London Zoo
The Tower of London and Tower Bridge Experiance.

After that you are getting into half day activities or 3 to 4 hours.

Most of the above are also close to Underground / Bus / Mainline Rail stations as well and just about all that you have to pay for have concessions for those using public transport on the two for one offers.

Enjoy.
