Which city is better London or Manchester?

Where is it easier to find a good job? Which city has the nicest people? What about nightlife and city atmosphere?

As a non-British observer who's been to both cities, I would say Manchester is the better city to live in, especially if you don't have a lot of money.
London is better for tourists, those with money and those who like a busy, fast paced living.
I would say the people in Manchester are slightly more open and friendly.

Manchester, good shops, clubs, facilities. Definitely the friendliest people and in London there are far more people who don`t speak English.

New Sage
Manchester is the better city by the very fact that is not London which is larger.
The larger a city is the more damaging it is to humans.

John R doesn't tell us why London is the best city; but hey...that's Londoners for you. People who have more money than sense may agree with him, but people in the same city, in places like council estates south (and north) of the Thames will certainly disagree. Both cities have sparking values, but it must be said that any envy that tends to be shown nowadays, it is from London, as the city nearly 200 miles north has always been a thorn in the capital's side.
Silver_whispers...thank you for such a good answer- it makes me wonder, thus, are you London born & bred?! Yes...Even Luton (and Stansted), despite being in Bedfordshire & Cambridgeshire respectively consider their airports as 'London', so as you say...it's massive.

I would say London.

I've lived all over the UK (my dad was in the army) so it's not as if i don't know anywhere else.

The problem is that the London the people who don't live here are referring to is the centre of it. London is MASSIVE! I live on the London Kent boarders and it's great! it's NOT more expensive than anywhere else (in fact when i lived in Norwich in Norfolk the prices were considerably steeper there) It's got a wider range of shopping centres so all tastes are catered for. If i want my daily shopping I'll nip down the road to Erith and get the shopping in Morrison's, or pick up the kids a new pair of school trousers in matalan's or a new piece of something or other from Argos. If i want a bit more variety I'll take the 20 minute bus journey to Bexleyheath (much the same only more of it) If I'm looking to make a day out of it but don't want to go too far I'll go on the 30 min bus ride to Blue water.

If I'm really looking for some craziness and a laugh then I'll go "up town" as we say. only 30mins on the train.

And the people aren't as unfriendly as people think. If it's just a trip to town then i admit yes their not always great. BUT living here is totally different. I knew all my neighbours within a fortnight of moving in here! And their ALL great! we have barbeque's together, street party's and what not. So it's all down to your own perception i think. But as for London?

I LOVE IT!
