When I went to Liverpool five years ago I was so saddened to see all those gorgeous buildings seeming going to ruin by neglect. But I was stunned by the growth in Manchester, all new and up and coming, young and vibrant.
Then a couple weeks back I was in Liverpool again and I could not believe the change! This being the European Capital of Culture 2008, it's astounding how much change has occurred in such a short time.
When I would have said hands-down Manchester a few years back, Liverpool has certainly taken over that spot in my heart. |

This is like saying which of the twins is better?
These two great cities are the dynamos commercially and culturally , in the North West. It is like saying who is better Torres or Gerrard, or for MU fans , Ronaldo or Rooney. They are both very effective partneships.
The killer question is "is London better than either or both of them?"
A no brainer. |

Manchester. It's far far bigger than Liverpool and its streets are nowhere near as dirty.
Liverpool has the Tate, granted, but Manchester has far more museums and gallleries.
Its shopping centre is also much bigger, and then we have the Trafford Centre too (if that sort of thing floats your boat)... although technically that is in Trafford, as is Man Utd...
I'm from Manchester, but when I was deciding where to go to uni, it was between Liverpool and Birmingham. I chose Birmingham. That's how bad Liverpool is! |

Without a shadow of doubt it's LIVERPOOL! Manchester is a filthy, dirty, depressing place to be whereas Liverpool is so vibrant and this year's European Capital of Culture.
Also, the people in Liverpool are much, much friendlier.
Where would you rather be? In a city which was elected the European Capital of Culture or in a city which, statistics prove, is the UK Capital of Crime?
I know where I'd rather be! |
