Either way you count it Scotland has more coastline than any other country in the UK, and ... "Scotland’s seas host almost half of the EU’s breeding seabirds including about half of the world’s Northern Gannets and a third of the world’s Manx Shearwaters. Four sea bird species have more than 95% of their combined British and Irish population in Scotland, while a further fourteen species have more than half of their breeding population in Scottish colonies" so tis a rich and bountiful coast at that.

Furthermore - if you flattened it out it would be bigger than England anyway! lol!

And where are these 6000 English islands btw??

This is one of those questions that has a nasty twist in the tail.

The problem lies in the definition of "coastline".

If you define the coast as being those areas of the mainland which are tidal, then the answer is undoubtably Scotland, because of the number and length of the many sea lochs on the west coast.

If you add to the mainland, all the coasts of all the islands, then Scotland accounts for over 65% of all the UK coastlines (Have you ever looked at a map of Harris & Lewis !)

Scotland has the largest coastline by some distance. You just need to look at the rugged and jagged detail on Google map.

Mainland Scotland's coastline is 6,200 miles long. There is also nearly 800 islands in Scotland that would increase this.
