This is a very difficult question to answer because there are many factors to consider - language, religion, culture, shared history. I think most people would say the USA is most similar to Britain but I would argue that Australia or New Zealand are most similar to Britain given the shared language and shared history. Most Antipodeans consider the Brits (or Poms) too stiff/stuck up but I believe we are closer in how we view the world than most Americans. The big divide between the USA and Britain is the power and prevalence of Christian fundamentalism in the US while Britain is primarily a secular society. |

Iceland, having been their recently i have discovered that we share a similar sense of humor and a joint hatred of german towel abuse (putting towels by pool night before) |

It won't be popular but the answer is Germany.
Forget the difference in language and the war and look at what you have . .
Two very developed Northern European countries with proud and well documented histories (which interlink right through history) made up of large and well integrated ethnic communities. Similarly bureaucratic with high taxes, well organised social security and comparatively low unemployment. On holiday we visit the same destinations and we both consume vast quantities of Italian and ethnic food over our own lousy national dishes. We are the biggest consumers of beer and share the same love of football. We even drive the same cars.
To anybody who says we have a different sense of humour - you should check German TV listings, full of English comedy.
I've spent time on every continent and the only thing Americans and Aussies share in common with us is the language (sometimes) a love of invading harmless middle eastern countries. |

New Zealand most definitely, they speak our language , they drive on our side of the road and they have similar climates to us, winter, autumn, summer and spring, its just theyre backwards so their summer is our winter. |

Definitely New Zealand. Language, climate, politics, world view - it's all pretty similar. Don't know if kiwis would agree though.
It's NOT Canada. Canada is nothing like the UK, let's face it, they're just America-lite. |
