Camden Town is a really great place to visit. It's got a great market on the canal, you can do trips on a barge and have lunch, there are some great restaurants (I recommend Mango Rooms)... some great bars and pups and venues for concerts (The roundhouse) and it's just got every type of person you can imagine. It doesn't matter who you are you wont feel out of place. Its five minutes from London Zoo and regents park/primrose hill so you can go rowing or see a play at the open air theatre (in the summer)... The best part is that's where I live... I am just an added bonus to an already great place.

Have fun what ever you do!

Also someone below mentioned London Bridge? I have to say that the London Bridge in London is just a pile of cement and I don't see the attraction there. There is a view of the river but there are nicer bridges with better views. I may be missing something and they may be thinking of the London Bridge in Arizona? If you see one bridge while in London make it Tower Bridge... now that's worth a look!

Among the nonsense (who are these idiots who say things like "the road out"?) there are some excellent replies here, especially MissMay's. And Sundeep is right about Leicester Square.

Canary Wharf is just a business district (admittedly with a few shops and restaurants too) and it's not "bang in the mid of London City". Madame Tussaud's is a matter of taste :/

As well as Camden, there's also another great market at Portobello Road.

Born and bred here since 1924.
Victoria Park, Roman Road Market,
Petticoat Lane.
Bromley by Bow. The best place to see old London

Tower Bridge, Cherry Garden Pier, Rotherhithe and St Mary's Church the dock from where the Mayflower left.
The Docks North and South of the Thames

Brockley Park to see Crystal Palace.
Hornimans Museum the best place for Oriental History.
Catford and Lewisham Markets

Bromley with its Bromley Gardens
Chislehurst Caves
Farnbourgh and its local park lands

Upminster Windmill and its suburban layout.
Belus Park and Hornchurch anywhere
Upminster Common.

Colchester 50 mins from London The Romans started here.

#Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner #
It's my home town.
Now pop off to lunch in one of these posh places mentioned above.
Cor' stone the crows, someone will show you around.

Covent Garden is really good there are lots of street entertainers and they re mostly very good. Some times you even get small orchestras. The London Eye is good, either day or night.

it depends on what excites you as we are all different, but i like covent garden, lots of bars, restaraunts, shops selling a large variety of things, and there are lots of street artists putting on shows, at night it gets really lively and lots of people from all over the world congregate there to dine and drink, its a really exciting place

Depends what you are into. Try Camden, you won't find anything like it anywhere in England.
