Which is the nicest part of the Lake District to visit?

hi, i went to the troutbeck valley in april this year. we stayed in troutbeck village which is about 10 mins drive from windermere and ambleside. absolutely gorgeous village, very tranquil and relaxing. queens head pub in village is fab food and great atmosphere, highly recomend.

Depends what you want.

Quietest valley - Ennerdale.
Most Variety - Langdale.
Most interesting short walks from - Ambleside (You can leave the car behind)
Most beautiful lake - Ullswater
Most useful person to walk with - Me
Best non Lakes village - Gilcrux (Where I live)

This Saturday, I'll be walking in the quietest bit of the lot - back of Skiddaw. I'll go up High Pike, across to Carrock Fell and back down to Calebrake Common. I guess if the weather's fine I'll see less than 10 people all day.

Guess what? I'm biased.

It's all nice, but Ambleside and in particular the Riverhead hotel, good restaurant

Grassmere is the most picturesque village that I've ever come across. Keswick is OK, and I think Windermere is the most happening town.

Ahhh, without doubt, Bowness and Ambleside - both on Lake Windermere.

Make sure you get yourself to the Porthole (restaurant) for some really amazing food. And for some history, go to the "Hole In't Wall" pub in Bowness - it's got a lovely beer garden, and loads of famous people have drunk here over the centuries.

Go North, South, East or West of Windermere and Ambleside. Do not venture into those two benighted towns. They are overcrowded, over-rated and over priced. If you keep to the quieter parts of the area, particularly the west and eastern sides, you will find fewer people, great scenery and views, slightly lower prices and vast, open, space that you can enjoy in peace. If you need a night life and masses of people, go to Blackpool.

I think the whole of Lake District is amazing and if you aer really interested then the one i would recommend is Keswick and the beautiful Lake Ullswater, something that you wouldnt like to miss. But sorry to tell you that this is not the right time to go visiting unless you prefer to spend time indoors........

We got to Bowness about 8 times a year but always have a drive to Ambleside and Grasmere.

Bowness is good for shopping and pubs. Windermere at the top is ok but not as many shops and you can never get into the restaurants. Ambleside is also good for shops and walking and Grasmere is dead but probably the nicest town out of them all.

Depends what you fancy doing.

We stayed in the Craig Manor Hotel for my b.day last w-end and it was fantastic. Had a double bath in the bathroom aswell. But mostly we stay in b&b's and haven't yet found a bad one.
