Melia
North bit. If your stuck, ask for directions. If they talk to you using funny words with a funny accent, your probably in the East. If there are more theatres than usual, your probably in the West.

In a broad sense, any London Borough north of the rive would be regarded as north London. Most people would be a bit more specific and would suggest anything with an NW postcode and most N postcodes as North London. Some N postcode may be a just a little too east and may be considered as East London. There is no London postcode NE (as this is a Newcastle upon Tyne postcode). Any W postcode is regarded as West London.

At its widest extent, North London is the part of Greater London that is north of the River Thames. This includes most of the historic central areas including the City, the East End and the West End; and the majority of the London Underground network. This area is made up of the City of London and the London boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Barnet, Brent, Camden, Ealing, Enfield, Hackney, Hammersmith and Fulham, Haringey, Harrow, Havering, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Islington, Kensington and Chelsea, Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest, and Westminster. This definition is used by the Boundary Commission for England. The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames includes sections on both sides of the River Thames. The boundary commission class the entire district as part of South London. In 1965 Camden, Hackney, Hammersmith and Fulham, Islington, Kensington and Chelsea, Tower Hamlets and Westminster were designated Inner London boroughs and Barking and Dagenham, Barnet, Brent, Ealing, Enfield, Haringey, Harrow, Havering, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest were designated Outer London boroughs.

Generally speaking, any address that has N in front of the numbers and whatever after the Post Code starts. i.e. N15 7UE. Anything else would be North East or North West, as in NE5 9OD or NW5 8UF. There is no NNE or NNW London. Any map showing postal areas will help and I know you can buy them 'cos I have one!
