Eating & shopping is best in Glasgow. Edinburgh good for sightseeing etc. They are only 45 minutes apart, so I would visit both. Glasgow hotels are cheaper. I am A Scot. |

On the Scottish/English border;
Then you can travel south over the border and find more scots than there are north of the border!!
At least until Scotland becomes totally independant, then hopefully all the Scots will be in Scotland to enjoy their hard won freedom from this tyrannical England!!!
But i`m guessing maybe not.! |

Two of my favorites are the Outer Hebrides, especially Barra, the Uists & Benbecula, and on the mainland the area around Mallaig. |

Go to Aviemore. Its near Inverness which has good shops and thing to see. Its also near loch ness which is a great visit. I take my dog there and she loves it. There is sooo many foresty walks by the lakes and hills and its beautiful!
Aviemore is technically a ski resort as well, so if your into that (and theres snow) thats an added bonus. But its absolutely great for walks! |

edinburgh is fantastic. Base yourself in Edinburgh and do a tour of the West Coast, the scenery will astound you.
Edinburgh and Glasgow are surprisingly close togther. You can visit Glasgow which has some of the best shopping and night life in Europe.
You can safely avoid the east coast north of Dundee, it is kinda boring. ( and expensive)- and the natives ain't too friendly either. |
