Corronation Street is Popular!

I've moved around Manchester a bit and I thought the following were nice:

Bury
Prestwich
Whitefield
Whalley Range was ok, doesn't have a great reputation but I never had any trouble while there.
Hulme
If you're looking at Gtr Manchester then Stockport & Sale are nice too.

Hope that helps, good luck.

bolton is nice and would be near work.

Bury is supposed to be nice. Parts of North Manchester are OK and will be cheaper than the South. I've a friend who lives in Middleton who likes it there.
Chorlton-***-Hardy is nice, but pricey, as is Didsbury.
Withington in South Manchester is OK too.
Prestbury (referred to above) is in Cheshire and if your friend is a millionaire they will like it there.

Ahem. Chorlton-***-Hardy is a place in Manchester! There's no need to blank out the middle bit! Oh, for Pete's sake!

Various places to up and move to in Manchester actually. The North side is an up and coming area with lots of new builds going on. Blackley/Alkrington/Bury to name just three. The people in the North tend to me more 'local' than the south of Manchester also.

My other half's father lives in Bolton, in a nice area called Lostock.

Bolton isn't a bad place to live, just don't move to Breightmet there, as that's not nice, I lasted 8 months living there & it was pure hell

The nicest two places I know are Didsbury and Chorlton - both in the south of the city, but very close to M60. Leafy suburbs, with plenty of bars, restaurants, interesting shops, parks, young people and rental accommodation. Didsbury is prohibitively expensive for a first time buyer, however.

didsbury is lovely like someone mentioned. Also , just outside in stockport, is cheadle which is nice. Withington is also o.k and the city centre is alright. In the south i'd avoid wythenshawe, moss side, hulme, levenshulme and gorton. There is good and bad places all over. He should rent somewhere and then buy when he knows the city a bit better.

The *** above is chorlton-cume-hardy without the e! The computer is starring the word!

I live in bury and the area is up and coming,we are currently having major regeneration work.As with any town you have you good/bad areas...there are a lot of nice apartment builds in Tottington,Bury centre, prestwich and of course central Manchester....bout £1,000per month for flat in m/cr.£325-£550 a month in Bury area.

Barbara Doll to you
Prestbury is nice. In the suburbs.
