I live here and I love it. As mentioned in other answers there's beautiful scenery and amazing nightlife. The capital city of Edinburgh is great with a somewhat unique blend of old and new. The castle stands at the top of an extinct volcano and the city has expanded and grown around it.
I wouldn't live anywhere else

I would love to go because 80% of my heritage is scottish and I love to travel. I had a chance to go when I was 19 but my british hosts deemed it risky to be traipsing around the uk by myself with some guys that I met on a plane. LOL they were right of course and I was naive but I never did get to go.

I'm hoping to go to the Edinburgh Jazz Festival this year. Also I have friends in Dundee I haven't seen since they left the states over 5 years ago.

Seeing the movie Brigadoon as a child got me interested in it despite the fact that it was a Hollywood intepretation of Scotland...it still made me aware of the country. I also have a penchant for highland Scotch and Scottish accents! (You can keep the haggis though.)

Spent last weekend in Edinburgh and it rocked. Reasons why - friendly people, great clubs / bars, culture (castle, roslin chapel etc), museums, art gallery, shopping, restaurants, country side and most importantly my friends!

My wife and I went to London, Edinburgh and Drumminadrochit for our honeymoon. Our favorite stops were Edinburgh and Drumminadrochit!

The scenery in the highlands is absolutely beautiful. There's a TON of history in Edinburgh, plus tour the Scotch Whiskey museum and learn about Scotch! Everyone in Edinburgh was really friendly and we had a great time checking out all the shops on the Royal Mile.

Drumminadrochit is a great sleepy little hamlet with some Loch Ness Monster tourist sites.
