Why Can't I Call Myself English.?

I am getting increasingly angry with not being allowed to refer to my self as English even though i was born in ENGLAND,if you were born in Scotland you can call yourself Scotish,if you were born in Wales you can call yourself Welsh, but if you were born in England according to this government i'm British, i can no longer get an English Passport,it's got to be European. Is this government really trying to take away from us, what little identity we have left.

And Why Not?
Blame ALL UK Governments since we were conned into joining the EU - it was the European ECONOMIC Community and it was supposed to be about free trade not politics. The worst of course have been Blair and Brown

You can call yourself Susy Twinkletoes for all I care, mate.

Well the Scottish and Welsh can call themselves what they like but must still have a British passport or driving licence...

You can call yourself what ever the hell you want. You have never been able to get an English passport, just as you can't get an Welsh, Scottish or Northern Irish one. You also can't get a European one - you get a British one. Just because it says it is in the European Union does not make it a European passport and if you cared to read the inside of it you would understand that. Under international legal status none of our home nations are actually countries any more, hence why we all have a United Kingdom passport.

Your whole question is full of innacuracies and you are thus getting angry for no reason at all. So hopefully you will feel better now - bless.

fly the George cross above your house that will do it

You are English be proud of it. I have just filled in a form and crossed out British and put English. I will continue to do so. I don't like the idea of a United States of Europe.

There hasn't been English nationality since the Act of Union in 1707. Since then our nationality has been British. Nothing to do with 'this government'. Culturally and ethnically you are entitled to describe yourself as English - as others have said, you can call yourself what you want.

It's ridiculous. Seems very unfair and I miss my blue passport too.

Yes. Divide and conquer!

..This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in a silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall,
Or as a moat defensive to a house
Against the envy of less happier lands
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm
This England"

....or maybe not. lol

Identify yourself as a real Englishman, call yourself friend of gnombes, pixies, elfs and fairy's. Us English are realy still pagans at heart. Go and have a bonfire mate, burn down the houses of parliment if they wont give you a English passport, make a stand. Dress as superted and jump from big ben on a bunji, bring three lions to the gates of buckingham palace and demand your rights man !!

If your English, you're English. You were born in England, not Great Britain or the United Kingdom..ENGLAND!!!.. I'm sure the scots, welsh and irish are equally naffed off. Doesn't matter that half the English government are scottish. Say it loud... I'm ENGLISH and I'm Proud (apologies to James Brown).

hannahrobiha
okay. So if you are born in England you ARE english. The french are french, as the italian are italian. Yet were are al european. Why not just own the fact that you have your own little part of europe instead of just being european. You English. OWN IT!!

You cant call yourself English because its not politically correct, or PC as we call it in the states. Here we have PC terms for everyone.
Anyone from the other side of the Atlantic are "Europeans."
Anyone from Asia are "Asians."
People with black skin are "African Americans" (I guess only the US has people with black skin, If I were from Africa I would be offended being called African American)
Anyone from central or south America are "Latinos" Plus Cuba, Spain and Puerta Rico.
Indians are native Americans regardless of what part of the Americas they are from, south, central, north, even Eskimos fall into this group.
People from India are "east Indians"
People from the Middle east are "Middle Eastern decent"
And all white people are "of European Decent"
I'm an American and proud of it, My Great Grandmother was the first person on her side of the family born in North America, she was born in Eastern Canada, her family came from Ireland, I have the red hair to prove it. My father gave me an English surname but we don't know his family line but I would assume after tracking the name northern England, southern Scotland.
My GF's family came from Portugal via Hawaii, shes "of European decent" but her sister is often called African American because of her dark complextion.

Its really funny, the governments take away our identities so we wont offend others. When someone asks me I tell them I'm native American, I was born here, as were my parents and their parents, how many generations do we have to have before we can be an American instead of "European decent"? And your family line in England is probably much older than mine is in the US. But you dont want to offend anyone else in the European Union now do you?

amos
All English people are either French or Greman anyway so what you griping about.
