Well...hmmm...I'm not nice anywhere ;)
There are no dumb questions, a teacher once told me, but I am sure there are lots of unnecessary ones. Get my point? |

Dude,
You were in Spring Break in Mexico, and you thought the Americans were "rude".
Am I even supposed to take this question seriously?
"Spring Break". A bunch of loud, horny, drunken, drugged up college kids who flock to wherever the beer flows, make complete asses of themselves year after year, and from this experience, you take it that Americans in general"are rude when they are abroad on holiday."
LOL!!! You can't be serious. When you figure out that perhaps American college kids on spring break maybe isn't the best and most accurate representation of Americans on "holiday" as a whole, let me know and we can have a real deal discussion on here.
Take it easy. |

Is it possible that the only Americans you noticed were the ones that were loud and rude?
I know it is often harder to notice the quiet, polite ones. |

You were in Mexico for spring break, um did you notice a lot of drinking being done and were most of these people college age? Mexico for spring break is a HUGE party location for a large number of US college students. Next time go to a college city in the US for spring break and see how quiet it is since all the kids have gone south to party. |

I was born outside the USA and I saw plenty of American Tourists before and after I came to live here. They always seemed pleasant and nice to me. Were the ones you met up with drunk, or something like that? |

I have not found them to bad, they have naturally loud Voices they cant help it,but some are quiet enough.A lot of the English are Rude and Arrogant Especially the younger ones when they go abroad. Have you ever met a Drunken English Lager Lout on the Continent most obnoxious roaring at everybody trying to start fights. |

I don't know about Mexico..but I have traveled in both Germany (2 times) and Scotland and as an american I was absolutely ASHAMED (especially in Scotland) of how the Americans act...loud and drunk.
I think that maybe they feel the need to show how "superior" they are to other nationalities...silly me, I have always tried to be on my BEST behavior...why? Because when you are in another country, you ARE a representative of you homeland! |

Am not sure about that as have not been to mexico.
BUT I can say that many nationalities including us Brits are a pain in the **** abroad too especially in spain etc |

Wow! - I haven't noticed some "Americans being nice in their own country" as of late - Ha! - I think that good manners and common courtesy have been on the decline here!
Americans need to learn to be more patient and understanding - especially when traveling abroad - we should be putting our best foot forward, and trying to show that we ARE the "good guys" - I think most of the people I know, DO have that kind of attitude! But then, your point about making "generalizations" has to be kept in mind!
Having said that, I took a trip to London, England - a few years back, now .... and I was so impressed with how cordial and friendly those Brits were! We were treated SO well there!
I have to say, that the British (for the most part) really know how to be "civilized" and make visitors feel at home. I would love to go back there for a visit, sometime! |

The same can be said of many nationalities.
I suspect that it is simply down to insecurity; you are out of your own environment, you feel threatened/intimidated (subconsciously at least) so you feel it necessary to mark out your own territory - it's a bit like two cats getting into a fight, it's mainly noise and bravado, in the hope that the other will back down. |

Loud and rude is the american way Jocko! Load is what you have in your pants when confronted by an american. |

It seems this is the American's reputation around the world. I'm not entirely sure why this is, but I have noted that when travelling American's seem to think they can expect the same services in other countries as in their own. They can't seem to understand, "when in Rome..."
I know when travelling, I make sure with flags, pins whatever it takes, that people do not think I'm American ( I'm Canadian) that way I know I'll be treated well. |

It's the only way to blend in with the crowd. I travel quite often and most of the people are very rude. Dominicans are the worse. |
