Why are English men so reluctant to give American women straight answers?

Are they really afraid we will eat them alive? lol

English---I'm assuming you mean British---men are more cultured, more reserved, and more used to conversations, communications, relating ideas, etc. British women are, for the most part, more subdued and mannerly in public, well spoken, well read, and are better at intelligent conversation than American women. American women tend to just babble on and on and on and on about absolutely nothing that is very interesting.

British women, although some have "East End", Irish, or Scottish brogues in their accents, are usually much more well spoken than American women. So, a man's concentration on the conversation isn't continually broken by misplaced "like" and "you know" and "you know what I'm sayin," etc.

I believe an English man in a long-term relationship with a babbly-domineering American woman would be quite rare, actually.

Answer:
British women, more refined than their American counterparts? Excellent generalisation. Now, I beg the pardon of the conceited while I laugh at the irrefutable hilariousness of the conjecture.

American women are sharp; they can be intelligent, articulate, and well versed. Hell, they even have forthcoming and confident attitude, in general, of course, which might be a cause for instilling intimidation. However, to stereo type any group is pretty much intellectual-suicide from the get-go. These are modern British men, not linear-minded conservatives from middle-Egypt. They’re not children with an over cultured biase, and an extensively limited taste in women. I don’t see why they’d have more or less trouble with American women, aside from the basic initial barrier, which most of them are competent enough to overcome.

Cheers.

Shouldn't the question actually be "why are the English men I know so reluctant to give ME a straight answer?"

Ever thought the problem could be you, honey?

i'm an american woman and my english husband gives me straight answers all the time. actually most of my mates are men and not one of them is reluctant to give me straight answers or afraid i'll eat them alive. they're a canny lot and we share mutual respect.

I am italian BUT have lived in London for 20 years.. so I am a strange one myself now, I have had two beers and I simply "cannot" give you a straight answer, the brit part has taken over.
I will therefore reply using Winston Churchill's own words about the English since he was one of them and very respected one at that
He said: "The sun will never go down on the British Empire because God would never trust an Englishman in the dark" or something like that....
so... no, they are not afraid you'll eat them alive, more like they are working out some strange story in their minds, they are kind of fast forwarding your reply to their reply and they reply to your reply trying to work out something which is BETTER than the truth and that'll all make sense, something which not even God would be sure about, as their respectful prime Minister said. very often they then just end up staring at you, gulping their beers down until they are too drunk to say or (more importantly) do anything. And that's the end :-)

Actually, I think its the other way around.
Take for example tonight.
I had met this woman..talked for hours , "made out under the stars"
set up a date for this week, talked about it several times, then boom...no call backs to confim the date again..nothing..If she didnt wanna go in the end, why couldnt she just be straight and tell me? didnt even answer the phone ...I think women are the ones who cant give straight answers

Dating in England is much more subtle and complicated than in America. But once it gets started I think you'll find the process is much faster than in the US, in a good way.
