Why are English soccer names so damn confusing?

manchester united, tottenham, ac milan, etc....why can't it be easier? where's manchester united located? where's ac milan? Team names should match their respective cities, don't you think?
Why can't you just name them after American cities? It would have a more worldwide appeal. NY, Chicago, Boston, etc is better than tottenham, ac milan, or chelsea - no one's heard of them.

You've not heard of these places because of a poor education. Incidentally Milan is in Italy not the UK.

diamonds
oh...don't know....why don't you call it football instead of soccer!!

Xai
*sigh* Troll. A good troll admittedly but a troll all the same.

I fail to believe you don't know where Manchester United is located. An suggesting we name English football teams after American cities is just inflammatory.

Well done, though. It's the first trolling question that's nearly got me for a long time!

stephen D
They do!! Manchester united is in manchester! Birmingham City is on Birmingham Liverpool F C is in Liverpool, just to name a few!! and ok so there are some that are not named after the city but the area in the city ie. Aston villa is in Aston (birmingham) Chelsea is in Chelsea (london). Its obviously confusing to you because you not english

Vulture38
Yes...

You have a team in Buffalo ( That should be called Bison)

The New York Jets play at GIANTS Stadium (Actually in New Jersey)

Somebody had to "borrow" a baseball team from New York (Dodgers)

The New England Patriots? Which state is that exactly?

Kate E
Manchester United are in Manchester.
AC Milan are in Milan, which is not in the UK.

Ahh Mr Troll !

Why do Americans all that padding and protection to play American 'football' - Yet our rugby players only have the luxury of a 'box' I'd love to see ANY American 'football' team face the wrath of a British rugby team - with JUST the protection of a 'box' - in a nice 'quiet' game of rugby ! lol !

AtomsForPeace
Please tell me this is a joke!

jon_santana
Most of the teams are named for their home towns. I think the only exception is Arsenal.

AC Milan is an Italian team.

THE MIGHTY RA
With names like that we could call it the WORLD "soccer" series

This is good for a person from a country who can never remember "Washington" but for some silly reason call it the "nation's capital" - whose politicians did not know where Iraq or Afghanistan were before they invaded those countries and whose present president does not speak an identifiable form of English

What is the capital city of the state of New York?

Ava-Scarlett x
AC MILAN IS ITALY!

manchester united and manchester city - are in Manchester
Liverpool and Everton - Both named after places
chelsea, tottenham, west ham, aresnenal - all places in London
Norwich City - in Norwich

you probably havnt heard of them because you dont live in the UK?

uuh, people who LIVE in the UK have heard of them. i dont even like football (or "English soccer") and i know where they're from.

Except ac milan. never heard of that one.

And, naming it after american cities would not give it a worldwide appeal. if you dont like the game, your opinion isn't going to change because the name has changed.
