We have always managed to get something at a reasonable price through Welcome Cottages...don't forget that the price you see is for the cottage, not per person...so it may not be as expensive as you think. Also you have to take into consideration which area you are going to as some are more expensive than others.
Take a look here...

The whole part of living in Britain is being ripped off. people just pass on the rip off to the next person in line. |

its so expensive because this country is so expensive. The people letting the house have to cover the cost of mortgage, gas, heating, electric, water etc and still make a profit. with the ridiculous house prices its not surprising its expensive. |

everything just doubles in price during school holidays and you'll find unless you are booking well in advanced you have nowhere to go because everyone wants to visit the same time you do. Have you tried ringing some of the ads in the paper? I know the mail on sunday seem to have a large section with ads for this type of thing. |

You think holidaying here is expensive... try living here!!!! |

What do you consider a rip off? When you think people who own cottages have to pay Council tax, water rates, mortgage, cleaners, advertising rates, breakage, and damage, general maintenance, and upkeep, various insurances, Electricity bills, fuel bills, and many more costs, the general public don't seem to understand, as well as make a profit.
I look after a cottage in Cornwall, and if you only knew how badly some people treat other people's homes, you would have some understanding of why the rates are kept high. We have had to replace bedding, 2 showers, replaced stolen items, renewed doors, repaired paintwork, deep cleaned carpets, and that was just in the past 12 months. I don't feel that £350 for a week in August is a "rip off" when you consider a week in a grotty "Haven" caravan will set you back around £900 for a week in August. That's what my friend paid for a week in Perranporth last year.
I hope I have given you an insight into how prices are calculated for cottage rentals, they don't maintain, run, and clean themselves.people have to be paid!!! |

It's because Britain is and expensive place. We are considered a wealthy country so the cost of living is high. Especially in the summer holidays.
I hope you find your holiday. |

Honestly try www.chasethewildgoose.com I have been here and stayed and it is not that expensive. It is in the Argle forest near Dunoon. It is a log cabin but is really cosy with fake coal fire and TV/DVD player, big kitchen, big bedrooms, sauna and is only a 5 minute walk from a lovely little village with little country pubs. There is also quad biking and horse riding and clay pigeon shooting if you fancy it. |

I think they are all about the same, its a joke isnt it?
You are going to have to spend ages and ages looking for places on the internet before you find anything half reasonable. Good luck xxx |
