The Exotic Dr. Congo

Why are the denizens of London so aggressive and rude in comparison to the rest of Britain?

That is a truth in every large city all over the world, and it's usually because they are much more in a hurry and more into preserving what little "personal space" they can get. Living in an urban atmosphere causes most people to lose the more relaxed rhythms that develop in people more in tune with nature in the countryside. And because they are more crowded, they practice ignoring those around them to provide each other with more privacy. That translates to people unused to those habits as aggressive and rude, when it's really just the hustle and bustle and privacy of the big cities.

it is called "the rat phenomana" as you pack them in to smaller and smaller spaces and limit their food supply...then the more competitivethey become. and every other individual becomes a competitor and a threat!

A lot of Londoners are rude and aggressive, and a number of my friends have developed a certain arrogance living in London, but so have friends of mine who live in New York, Paris and Sydney. It's a big city thing, as opposed to a London thing.
But then, there are a lot of Londoners (7 million-odd) so by definition there are a lot of rude people. I think it's partly because many of them have moved to follow competitive careers, and they are also constantly competing for space, so there's a lot of pressure the whole time, plus if I was paying the ridiculous London prices for rent, food and everything else, I'd be grumpy too!
Incidentally, my entire family are originally from London, and none of us are rude or aggressive, including the half that still live and work there every day. My advice - move to the countryside, it's nicer, and commute. It's what I do, and I'm well happy!

Londoner isn't aggressive or rude, we're just being ourselves, we lives on pressures and lives in a "small-space", people from rest of britain isn't used to it, as they're just free-mind, with few things to worry about compared to us Londoners. Sorry about my English.

I lived london 12 years and yes there are rude people but there are rude people everywhere. I loved it there and never had much of a problem. I found Londoners to be fine and friendly but no matter where you go you will always come across unfriendly rude people. At least in London people respect your privacy and don't ask you a million questions as in "do you own your house or renting and are you married or bla bla bla". In London nobody really passes any heed on what you wear or how loud you talk and you can be a free soul and yourself and I miss that so much. Where I am from people narrow minded and miss London for that alone and the buzz of the city. Alot of people in London are brought up on council estates and life is hard to survive and you have to be tough to survive and I made alot of pals that on the outside seem tough but underneath heart of gold.

No they are not, i am one of those citizens, little more reserved perhaps, but remember that this is a city of over 7 million people and rising, with a huge diversity of people, so unless you know us all, then it's a bit of a sweeping statement. It's like me saying all northerners wear cloth caps and race whippets and all Scots wear Kilts.

Same with any capital/large city - the populace is driven to ingrained superiority. Particularly when they realise how insignificant they are after all. The North of England is a very friendly place though!
