Why can't we link Ireland to England? with a tunnel????...

why not with all the technology we have? we have to travel to France or England by ferry! if we linked Ireland to England think of all the revenue you would make, plus the increase in tourism

Ireland to England? That would be an unnecessarily long, and therefore expensive tunnel. If you were going to consider this as a serious project, the obvious link is between Northern Ireland and Scotland. I doubt if you'd get enough traffic to make a worthwhile income out of it, though, for the very obvious reasons stated in previous answers.

good idea, i would rather travel through a tunnel than on the boats, and as for your first answerer... English and Irish DON'T hate eachother, stop living in the past.

The Channel tunnel has never made any serious profit and that links two countries with populations over 60 million, Ireland only has a tiny population so it wouldn't be worth it. Just fly Ryan air

Would not be a profitable route. Not a hundredth of the channel tunnel traffic

Government won't fund a big project like that

Well it is technically possible, but financially non-viable. Think about it - linking England to France via the Channel Tunnel means that you can access all of mainland Europe, but linking England to Ireland does not mean the same kind of access, you can fly or go by ferry quite cheaply and there would be no economic reason to build a tunnel.

WHO am i?
what on earth for. its ok as it is.

taxed till i die,

Not economically viable.

Well for a start we wouldn't want us to be linked to England in any way whatsoever. Took us long enough to kick the thieves off the island without inviting them back on the train!!

Blasé
No financial gain for anyone. Plus the IRA would have blown it up!

Has been talked about in the past and dropped for above reasons.

American boy.
