First of all the historical links between America and Liverpool have been well-described by Jonal. Little to add to that.
Liverpool as a maritime city looks outward to the world, and this affects the way the locals think and behave. Mix in the Celtic influences and the result is a very extrovert cocktail.
Americans are usually straightforward and open characters. This makes them soul mates with Scousers.
It is not just a Liverpool thing, I bet the same applies to the relationship between Glaswegians and Americans. |

Liverpool became rich in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries as Britain's leading port, claiming the lead from Bristol.Much of the trade was to America, although ships were sent all over the world. Much of the American trade was, regrettably, involved with slavery, from which a lot of money was made. The Liverpool city website will get you to links concerning this.Liverpool was the major link between America and Europe. New York and Boston especially retain close links with Liverpool. Many of the crews on the merchant ships were Chinese, and Liverpool has one of the oldest, if not the oldest Chinatown in Europe. It also now has the largest Chinese Arch outside of China.I will be there on Feb 7th for Chinese New Year. It's a huge event there, with thousands of people out, very colourful and very, very noisy. There will be a lot of Americans there as well.Lime Street is where limes were sold to the ships' quartermasters to prevent scurvy amongst the crews. |

uhm well liverpool is a very industrial city combined with architecture and history hence 2008 and its new title well all that along with quite a few university that are widely accepted and Liverpool FC ( though im a chelsea fan i have to say the scousers are a force to be reckoned with) and just the good impression of the people when you go to liverpool really gives one a sense of liking for the city |

Rita...it was a great port once - people may harp on about the Beatles, but before the early sixties, Liverpool (along with Manchester) were two cities in England that laughed at the conceited South, but Liverpool, along with other port cities were loved by Americans. |

Because they know that in London and the south-east of England that they will be cheated, robbed and perhaps even murdered.
Actually it is more likely the same reason that you chose to live here in Liverpool when you came to this country, Rita K.
- though having said that, you've been finding fault with the place ever since!
If you really do want your drink in a pub ruined by some caterwauling hippy with a guitar, or American 'diners' on every street corner then Liverpool may not be the place you want to be. Try the U.S.A. |

Something to do with the Beatles. I hate Liverpool; its one big slum full of aggressive work shy drunks obsessed with Football. |
