They shouldn't really say europe if they are coming to England (or any of our other wonderful countries) the should say the UK (or just England, Scotland, Northern Ireland or Wales, if they're not travelling across borders). We don't say we're going to the "North America" we say Florida, Calafornia etc. and just to let you canadians out there know some of us Brits don't associate you with the USof A.

England is part of Europe. Why would anyone think diffrent?

Signilda
Why do they call themselves "Americans" when they are really "citizens of the United States of Amercia"?

Last I checked, England was part of Europe.

according to my map, England is in Europe. Therefore, if one is going to England, one is going to Europe.

I do hope you are referring to England specifically rather than the UK as a whole ... there are a hell of a lot of English folks who don't seem to know the difference

Many years ago there was fog in "The Channel" the stretch of water which separates Britain from mainland Europe. A newspaper headline next day was like " Fog in the channel! Europe cut off! " Sez it all for me and I live in England!

Everyone has already said that England is part of Europe. I suppose to say it another way...

Why do the English say they're going to North America when really they're only going to Canada? *wink*

I'm guessing that even though the UK is part of Europe proper, most people don't affiliate the UK as being part of the larger landmass of Europe. Ah the benefits of being on an island.

Just be pleased that they do - it's better than saying they are going to England when they are actually going to Scotland.

It's a simple way of saying where they're going.

Most people do it. If you are going 7 km north-west of Malaga, up the road and turn right at the post office and someone asks where you're going on your holidays, you'll probably say Spain.

i kinda agree with u, we shouldnt be classed as in europe cos we such a great country we to good to be classed in europe, and countrys in europe aint good enough to be in our class.

Like everyon is saying england is part of the uk which is in europe.

Plus the americans never get taught any geography other than there own country.
