Why do london buses wait at bus stops for a while even when no one is either getting on or off the bus?

some buses around me seems to enjoy waiting one's time by just stopping and waiting valuable time at bus stop without any reasonable reasons to me.

Possibly because they have a schedule to adhere to and don't wish to get ahead of it. After all, its reasonable to expect buses to arrive at a stop in line with the published timetable.

Due to the timetable scheduling - bus drivers have to stop at allocated bus stops, but not necessarily every stop. Also since they change drivers/conductors it may be the case that the driver is waiting for the replacement.

i think its all to do with times they cant leave early due to the bus timetable.... hope that helps

UK Actionman
Cos they can be a bit late, but theyre not allowed to be early..

Thats the Bus-Drivers cardinal sin.

Keeping to time.

Han
They're ahead of their schedule, and need to waste time.

You'd complain if the bus you get at 8.30 turned up at 8.25 and promptly left.

It is frustrating though I know.

Busses have a schedule to follow, for instance:

Be at stop 1 at 9 am
Be at stop 2 at 9:10 am
Be at stop 3 at 9:15 am

So if they are earlier (due to no traffic), they are
"forced" to wait a while.

DippyD
They have to stick to the timetable otherwise the bus company gets complaints, anoying if you are sat on the bus but it would also be annoying if you went to catch a bus and it had set of early!!!

Tarzan
to regulate the service........
but anyway its stupid.......
and they will do it when you are in a rush.....

Because they must keep to schedule, drivers are allowed to run a little bit late but they can't be consistently early to bus stops so to keep time some will wait at a bus stop.

Not sure about in London but where I'm from the buses run to a timetable. If they are at a stop early then they stay there until it is time to leave.

stepney_lad
Say they can cause as much chaos as possible

Carrie S
Because if someone is waiting for the 10 past 4 bus at the next stop and it zooms past at 5 past 4 they'll miss it won't they.

<3 its kay babez <3
if they are earlythey either drive really really slowly, or just wait around.

or if its like a break they are having or changing drivers..

or just to annoy people lol
