England is because most people are right handed and traveling by horse in the mid ages you needed to be able to draw your sword and defend yourself if the approaching rider was a threat. sort of evolved into what it is today. In America right handed people used whips to dive the horse teams by being on the right side of the road it minimized accidentally hitting oncoming wagons. |

Why is your side the correct side? It was Americans that invented cars. True your country has been around longer than ours and you used horses and buggies in the old days on that corresponding side of the road, however, other countries in Europe who were also around as long as you did not. Therefore, my judgement would be that you are the odd ones. However, I shall not insult you as Swansea Wales is my favorite place to vacation and I would love to live there. G'day. |

Correct side of the road? Can you please explain to me which is the "correct side" and WHY?
Grow up, boss!
There is no right and wrong, there is just right and left. |

There is no correct side of the road. It all depends on the rules of the road in that country. |

Maybe because England does not drive on the correct side of the road. The only countries (out of around 250) that drive on the right side of the road are United Kingdom, Japan, New Zealand and Australia. 4 out of 250. The real question is why the Brits have to be different than everyone else? (Do you know how many accidents are caused in France because some silly Brit is driving on the wrong side of the road?) |

I think you have it backwards -- those countries (England, Japan, Australia, etc.) drive on the *left* side of the road.
The rest of us drive on the RIGHT side of the road :) |

So they can hold their beer with their left hand instead of their right. |

Depends on your definition of correct. I prefer the right side (gives me an advantage at toll booths, since I'm left-handed). |

What makes you think this is the correct side? Who's to know. Part of the adventure of travelling is experience different lifestyles, people, customs and culture. So just go with it and enjoy! Don't try and determine who is right and who is wrong. |

We don't neccesarily drive on the 'correct' side of the road and infact almost every other country drives on the opposit side to us. |

Hello, wherever it is, it's the "correct" side of the road for that location.
Not everybody lives where you live! |

Around here, people use both sides of the road and are inordinately fond of hand gestures and animal noises. |

Some of the others wanted to be different.
Its what makes the world go round.
It wouldn't do if we were all the same.
It makes it fun when you travel abroad. |

Americans are the oddballs. Europe and Asia all drive on the left, whereas Americans drive on the right. I personally think it's our "rebellious nature" Since we're also the only ones who use miles instead of kilometers, Fahrenheit instead of Celsius, et cetera. |
