Same goes for the Mona Lisa- I think it's because there's this legendary object that looms in our collective imagination... so when you finally see it, it's a disappointment. It's not Stonehenge's fault! Maybe you just have a vivid imagination- and the reality is a downgrade. |

Cos you cant get up close and personal with it.
Actually I was moved by it. I still found it interesting. But
I just wished I could be there alone without others and security guards |

Because it is now it is looked after by the national trust and no one is allowed to touch it, or get too close.
PS If you read about the size and measurements - I don't think you will find that these stones are small or lightweight.

In support of Bluegirl. Stonehenge is an amazing place, regardless of the pic's, its about being there, to be able to touch something what we, neither archeologist's are able to define or truly understand.
Take away the perception of the pic's. That's marketing. Understand what is front of your eyes, if you can. That's what a camera cannot take away from you |

Its professionally photographed from a very low angle, whereas you view it from 6ft above ground and at a distance. |

Camera angle...with the right lighting and the right angle..even I can look massive and awsome looking. |

Cause its been so commercialised, like everything else in that country, that they spoil it by fencing it and doing guided tours and speculating about its origin |
