It has LOADS of history, alot of the things we take for granted were invented in the UK, and there's plenty of places where the scenery is so spectacular it'll make your jaw drop to the ground in amazement.
Attractions include:
City of York
- York Minster (the largest in Northern Europe)
- National Railway Museum: the world's biggest & best
- the City Walls (date back to Roman, Viking & Norman times)
- Jorvik (Viking museum)
Whitby, North Yorkshire.... my home town. Voted Britain's best resort.
- Whitby Abbey (ancient ruins).... place where date for easter was decided upon.
- Whitby Museum.... contains fossils and many other artifacts
- The Captain Cook Museum: dedicated to the famous explorer who discovered Australia, in the building where he stayed as an apprentice.
- Whitby Beach... 3miles of Beach along the coastline
The town also provided the inspiration for the stories "Dracula" + "Alice in Wonderland".
Goathland
A village located 15-20mins Bus ride from Whitby. The Roadway into it is surrounded by the North Yorkshire Moors, which in summer time has a spectacular carpet of Purples & Greens from the Bracken & Heather plants.
Village also includes a Railway Station (part of the 20mile long North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which runs preserved steam Locomotives) was used as the location for HOGSMEADE STATION in the first 2 HARRY POTTER movies.
Thornton-le-Dale... one of the prettiest little villages in England to walk around. Has a stream running through it, along with a shop selling locally made ice creams, a village green with some medieval style stocks (leg restraints) + also a chocolate shop.
The English Lake District
Spectacular scenery, some of the largest lakes in England.
BLACKPOOL..... kinda like the English equivalent of Las Vegas.
Attraction include the "Blackpool Tower" (an attempt at creating a rival to the Eiffel Tower in Paris), the Blackpool Illuminations, Blackpool Pleasurebeach... a theme park, that's home to the "PEPSI MAX BIG ONE" (one of the largest Roller Coasters in Europe).
The Norfolk & Suffolk Broads
A network of waterways formed from Flooded medieval peat diggings..... which is one of the all time classic freshwater fishing venues in the UK, and also the most popular place to go on boating holidays here.
The Canal Network.... once a vital part of England's industrial revolution, until the Railways & now the roads took over, they're now making a bit of a come back as a Tourist attraction.
City of London...... capital city, attractions fairly obvious and known to practically anyone:
- Buckingham Palace
- Tower of London
- Tower Bridge
- Houses of Parliament + "Big Ben"
- Kew Gardens
- The London Eye (giant ferris wheel)
- various museums
- Royal Greenwich Observatory..... the place where all the world's time is set from (0ΒΊ), marked with a brass strip.
Liverpool...... home city of THE BEATLES, where you'll find a museum of the famous band.
Inverness, Scotland
nearest city to LOCH NESS in the Scottish Highlands...... home of the World Famous mythical LOCH NESS MONSTER. Even if you don't spot the monster, the scenery up there don't look too bad
City of Edinburgh
- Edinburgh Castle.... a Royal residence located on the top of a extinct volcano in the City.
Dumfries & Galloway
an area of Scotland where Formula1 driver David Coulthard grew-up. Plenty of Spectacular scenery to look at + some old Castles, along with "Sweetheart Abbey" http://www.historic-scotland.gov.uk/properties_sites_detail?propertyID=PL_283
Also up in Scotland is the town of "Callander" + Loch Lomond, which has more spectacular scenery.... and was also the area where most of "Monty Python & The Holy Grail" movie was filmed.
North Wales.... includes the towns Llandudno, Rhyl & Prestatyn.
Llandudno is famous for it's tramway going up a hillside called "The Great Orme".
Many, many more places can be found in:

Depends what sort of things you like...there are 1000's of historical places of interest (Castles etc), theme parks by the 100's - Alton Towers is great but its having a bit of a PR problem at the mo.
Theres loads of shopping centres etc too but they're all scattered around the UK & it would take months to take it all in (especially when you consider the UK is actually 4 countries...Scotland, England, Wales & Northern Ireland) |

Well for starters you get to visit four individual countries, Northern Ireland, England, Wales and Scotland. Each country has each got it's own individual cultures and History and their own parliaments [well England doesn't but all the rest have] |

The people on here who answer that they hate living here don't know how lucky they are, and don't (or can't?) think. They could have been born in the Middle East with it's constant warring, or America when guns are allowed on the streets, in Africa or Asia where there is real poverty...
UK has a mild climate, it doesn't really rain all the time just half of it lol, the people may sometimes appear aloof but it's mostly because they don't think it good manners to approach strangers. You only have to say hi and you'll be usually rewarded with a smile and a chat, honest! As for attractions, there are all the usual ones - from palaces and castles to theme parks and seaside resorts with candy floss and fish'n'chip cafes. The best way to see UK or anywhere abroad is to vist the main attractions first then spend a week going to random small towns to get the real flavour of the place. Eat where the locals eat, do what the locals do and you'll go home having learned what it's really like. Have a good stay! |
