Why has manchester got the big casino ahead off blackpool?

Surely it would be more suitable in blackpool with it already having all its lumination, pleasure beach, beach and arcades. Manchester has shops, apartments and office. It would not suit it aswell as blackpool would.

Manchester is a big city while Blackpool is just a town. I admit Blackpool has a lot of attractions and would be a good venue, but the people that are in Blackppool depends on the seasons.

Oh my god serenity that is disgusting! :(

I think it would have done wonders for Blackpool and it is a shame Blackpool needs regeneration. I guess it was chosen because it's a huge city and doesn't depend on tourist season. Then again, if it had been in Blackpool things would have changed so much there!

I miss going to the Blackpool I knew as a child.

They should have used that white elephant..the millenium dome.
what else is it good for?

It's Englands Third biggest city, so i suppose it's been done on population. It makes a change from London getting everything. I used to love going to Blackpool when i was a kid but unfortunately it isn't what it used to be, it seems to be popular for men on there stag nights. It's a shame, i wouldn't have thought the people of Blackpool wouldn't want a casino.

Although I live in Manchester I must be honest and say that I am not sure if it is correct to give us the Casino. We have received a good lions share of the pot, since the bombing and we have regenerated our City. However, this is mainly with the ongoing building of apartments and the fortunate that can afford to live in them. Perhaps the Casino will through this, re-generate jobs (expecting so) and in turn the workers may then be able to afford the homes being built (not on minimum wage though). Finally Blackpool is now in diar need of the same re-generation and the would rid them of the tacky B.B. and such like that in this day and age will not score them any brownie points. Manchester will have to firstly pull there socks up and clean the streets on a regular basis though, quite frankly I think this is going to pot!

There are reasons why Manchester probably got it, we have the second largest police force in the UK behind London, the transport links are better and Manchester is the second most popular tourist attraction to foreigners, again behind London. I think it would be a shame if Blackpool got it, it would ruin what the place is all about, sure there would be jobs and such but it would lose it's family appeal. Being a Mancunian myself I don't know f I'm all together happy about the decision, beyond the obvious financial gain I can see a lot of downsides to this super casino. Plus you should see the areas they are planning to build it, east Manchester is not a very nice place to be if you are an outsider. Plus what they are going to do with all the families that will sooner or later be expected to leave their homes as more and more developments rise from this is quite disconcerting. As we know, government, be it local or otherwise, tend not to plan that far ahead, I can see the huge possibility of this turning round and doing Manchester no favours.

Yes i agree Blackpool would of been a good place for it, maybe it could be with having a much higher population in manchester, i really dont know

The area that they are supposed to be building is next to the City of Manchester stadium. An area that is supposed to be in need of regeneration due to social depredation..ie crime, unemployment, poor housing. so the idea is ..."lets get em hooked on gambling as well" Look at Atlantic City in the US. They tried the same 30yrs ago and nothing changed. And we already have casinos in Manchester. We don't need another.
Blackpool should have won because of the nature of the town. They have more experience in running a resort and entertainment facilities. Sorry Blackpool

bert
Manchester are welcome to it,Blackpool is a family resort,a lot of the people there were against it in spite of the publicity hype and propaganda of the council.Perhaps now Blackpool will be changed back to the family entertainment and fun place that it was instead of the mecca for stag and hen parties and chavs, the police do a good job there, but their hands are tied and they are hindered by the money grabbing businesses.
