I've just returned from Tenby, magic place and we had good weather. Between Newtown and Welshpool, we passed a sign reading 'fflif', not sure of spelling, but we were lucky not to end up in the middle of a large flood. Tenby lifeboat station was in sight from our apartment, they call it, I suppose I'll be corrected..gorsaf bad achub, sounds like a rather nasty disease.
I love the Welsh people and I love good old Tenby. |

You're an idiot. Welsh is spoken all over Wales, in many parts as a first language, if you went to Iceland would you expect English signs? Numpty. |

Probably for the same reason as road signs in Greece are written in Greek and road signs in France are written in French. |

Welsh is the national language in Wales - what do you expect ?
Celtic and Gaelic are older than English and are the languages spoken by the original inhabitants of this island. |

It's their territory, so why shouldn't they be able to use their own language there? It's up to travelers to familiarize themselves with the places they're going to. It's not the natives jobs to accomodate. |

The Welsh Language Act 1993 is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, which put the Welsh language on an equal footing with the English language in Wales with regard to the public sector.

It's not a dead language - and some folks would very much like to keep it that way. lol |

In my own bitter experiance, they'd may as well be in slavic. Those welsh buggers turn them round and all sorts anyway.
Were you trying to make Holyhead too then? |

Because it allows politicians to spend millions without going to work and gives them an excuse not to work on issues of dire concern because they haven't got any money left .

Welsh is staging a comeback.
Welsh is a living language, used in conversation by thousands and seen throughout Wales. The Welsh Language Act 1993 and the Government of Wales Act 1998 provide that the Welsh and English languages should be treated equally. Public bodies are required to prepare and implement a Welsh Language Scheme. Local councils and the Welsh Assembly use Welsh as an official language, issuing official literature and publicity in Welsh versions (e.g. letters to parents from schools, library information, and council information) and all road signs in Wales should be in English and Welsh, including the Welsh versions of place names. The teaching of Welsh is now compulsory in all schools in Wales up to age 16, and this has had a major effect in stabilising and to some extent reversing the decline in the language. It means, for example, that even the children of English monoglot migrants to Wales grow up with a knowledge of the language. However, the vast majority of people in the main population centres of South Wales do not use the language in daily life.
So its not just us Goggs, watch out for trolls. |

Everyone should just speak English, its easier that way. Why on earth would you want to preserve a heritage based around a mythical dragon and coal? |
