If you really want to get fleeced go to Tokyo. £6 for an orange juice in a bar.

Inflation is high at the moment so prices have gone up. However the pay that people are paid reflects the prices of the country you're in.

Yeah you are right. I travelled all over th world and got stuck inn the US because I can't afford the same lifestyle in the UK. You could always move, but I wouldn't if I were you. Be grateful for what you have. It is a great place.

Yes and the wages are comparitively higher as well. If you're not happy with it why not choose another country to live in? With the EU being wide open there's plenty of places you can go.

mellouckili
Well look on the bright side of things. When you travel everywhere else is cheaper. I heard somewhere that London is one of the most expensive places in the world to live in after Tokyo. What is good in living in a expensive country is if you sell property here you can buy a much bigger house in another country for the same price, so the pound gos further. Also countries which have high standards of living generally get better paid, so it balances out in the end. It is expensive country but remember the pound goes further abroad.

The UK has a very stable economy. we've been in this situation for a few years now.

I for one, an glad i live here and don't think its expensive.

If its expensive, that means there are more people making money who can afford the things that seem expensive to you. There's an opportunity for you....there are people in the UK with money to spend...you need to grab it.

EDIT: For goodness sake, i've just read the first line of your profile. Show me any country in the world where the 16 year olds think their country is cheap ? You need to wait 10 years before you can judge that.

England is not THE most expensive place - try Scandinavia.

Also, our inflation rate is relatively low. Some countries have massive inflation e.g. some South American countries.

Standards cost money

Anyone who thinks the UK is a tip really should go abroad more

Everywhere else isn't cheap. Try going to Scandinavia or Japan.

Lots of others have answered this question adequately, but if you think the UK is expensive, dont go to Switzerland.

All major cities are more expensive usually around ten times more so and that includes the surrounding areas.

Because the Pound is so strong. But there are advantages: if you live in the South East, you can very easily get a job. It may not be a great job, but you won't starve.

Scotland is more expensive than most parts of england! You could always move!!!!

I will tell you why not because of the strong economy and all that, it is quite simply because of the greed of manufacturers and people who are getting rich on the back of joe bloggs that is why.

This country has turned full wheel and it will come to an almighty crash one day. You only have to look at the housing market to realise this.

It is scary stuff and it is going to need all the tenacity of a good chancellor to get us out of the road of mess this present government has led us down.

However, the UK for my money is still the best in the world to live for the warmth and generosity of it's people.

Italy is much more expensive,i wasnt impressed when i stayed over there.

rinfrance
Now you know why I moved to France. Basically it is down to taxation, However some of our foodstuffs are expensive but the stores are slowly getting the hint as people are going, for example to Tesco's at Potsmouth to do a load of shopping from here in france and also computer stuff in stores tends to be a lot dearer.
I guess that is made up from cheaper diesel, no car tax, cheaper insurance, ours covers recovery from all over Europe for any length of time for any breakdown or disability.
Our council tax is about £200 as opposed to £1500 in UK but our electric is dearer and France Telecom, well now they do rip you off, and no option.
Car parts are a con frequently and it is often cheaper to get them sent out from the UK.

Feinschmecker
You clearly haven't been everywhere.

Enjoy the things that are good and reasonably priced.

Import what's not reasonably priced or do some other workaround.

There'd be different pressures on you if you lived elsewhere.

If you were in America you couldn't be a "pretty girl" without D cups which in England would be regarded as almost obscenely large.
