As a southerner I moved to the north 8 years ago. Initially I found the northern culture to be friendly welcoming and relaxing and, mostly I remain with those views. However I have discovered that the north produces more than the countries fair share of loud and foul mouthed, self opinionated, ignorant, stupid and gratuitously violent people than I ever met down south.

Come on, we are all English, this is just what Gordon ( scot ) Brown wants to spilt up England, and wipe England off the map by breaking England up into regions, don't do his job for him, eh?

Northern England doesn't have the M25, it doesn't have shingle beaches, it doesn't have expensive shops, it doesn't have warm beer and it doesn't have the Royal Family in residence!

Father Jake
It must be the standard of education in the North. We Southerners can barely speell.

THE MIGHTY RA
Maybe its because in the south we can actually spell southerner, laugh, I'm, it's and laughing and don't capitalise words at random.

Just listen to yourselves and keep the thumbs down coming, you are an utter disgrace to this great country if you cannot even use the language of it, let alone mis-punctuate 2 letter words, Pathetic!

Cheaper to live, nicer friendlier people, georgous counrtyside.
Also..what is ity with the cockney accent?...it's not even the original English accent..whereas the northern accent is.
Cockney is just a mixture of god- knows- what that has developed over the years.

It has the town of Whitby (one of Britain's best seaside resorts, according to WHICH? magazine) http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/65d99/49fc6/

Jeremy Clarkson is originally a Northerner (from Doncaster)

Captain James Cook (discovered Australia, etc) - also a Northerner (born in Middlesbrough kinda area)

York Minster - the 2nd largest Gothic Cathedral in Northern Europe is also up North (so I guess we can say our's is bigger than theirs).

Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation) is also a Northerner http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Stewart

William Hague MP (one of the few good politicians in Britain these days, other than Boris Johnson) is a Northerner

The National Railway museum in York - the world's biggest railway museum

The biggest mountains & lakes in the country are up North (Lake District)

Roy "Chubby" Brown (one Britain's funniest comedians in the country) is a Northerner http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy_'Chubby'_Brown
Can't think of any famous / funny comedians from down south.

The Humber Bridge...... when opened was the longest single-span suspension bridge in the world, and still ranked as the world's 5th biggest. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humber_Bridge

The World's first 2 public railways were opened up north, and designed by a Northerner (George Stephenson): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Stephenson
